WASHINGTON - The electoral road to the White House favors Democrats this fall — either Barack Obama or Hillary Rodham Clinton — and has Republican John McCain playing defense to thwart a presidential power shift.

A downtrodden economy, the war in Iraq and a public call for change have created an Electoral College outlook and a political environment filled with extraordinary opportunity for the Democrats and enormous challenge for the GOP nominee-in-waiting.

1. I disagree wit this analysis. McCain has appeal in blue places like
NJ, PA, MI, ME, NH, WA, OR that Dems have to win. He may not be popular in the deep red states but he'll win them anyway. He has a chance to make inroads into normally Dem states. Depends on the Dem nominee of course.

2. McCain will be a formidable candidate
no matter who the Dems nominate.

The Repubs will run fear-based attacks even if Jesus Christ is the Dem nominee. In Jesus' case, he would be attacked for being pro-tax collector and pro-prostitute and anti-religious.

The Repubs have decided, as I have, that Obama has a 99% chance of being the nominee so they have already started negative ads in North Carolina using Wright against him. North Carolina will go Repub in the general, but I guess the North Carolina Repubs are hoping to help Repub Senator Dole and other Repubs hold onto their seats with their racist ads. Remember that former Repub Senator Jesse Helms ran a racist ad that helped him.
