Obama rules out more debates in "friendly" echange on FauxNews
No more debates, Obama tells FOX News
Posted April 26, 2008 2:44 PM

by John McCormick

ANDERSON, Ind. -- Sen. Barack Obama says he is not interested in any new debates before May 6 primaries in Indiana and North Carolina, according to excerpts of an interview to be broadcast Sunday on "FOX News Sunday."

A partial transcript, as provided by a FOX News producer:

Chris Wallace: Why are you ducking another debate with Senator Clinton?

Obama: I'm not ducking one. We've had 21 (laughs)...We want to make sure we're talking to as many folks possible on the ground, taking questions from voters.

Wallace: No debates between now and Indiana?

Obama: We're not going to have debates between now and Indiana

What Chris Wallace Said After Taping Interview With Obama

WALLACE: “…t was a very friendly exchange. I think we asked them questions that Fox viewers would want to hear and I think they’ll be interested in his answers, but he, he very much clearly wants to reach out to the kind of moderate conservative Democrats and Republicans who watch of Fox and I think, as I say, very much wants to get away from any sense that he’s a creature or a captive of the left. That was very clear throughout his more than half an hour we sat down and talked to him…”

10. Here I am! Runaway Obama shows his yellow stripe again!
First Obama said he won't debate because he's afraid "dose mean ol moderwators" will make it hard for him to look cool and smooth and competent. So Hillary calls his bluff and says, "Fine, let's do away with moderators. Let's duke it out ourselves, just you and me."

Obama will run away from that challenge, too -- although I haven't yet heard the alabi he'll concoct to excuse this particular example of his cowardice.

Maybe he'll try the old "We've already had xx debates": ploy -- as if that means a damn thing. There have only been a few debates between him and her, and every one has drawn a larger audience than the one before it. And it isn't just the voters in Indiana and NC who want to see more of these two -- the whole national electorate does -- and deserves to.

Obviously the PEOPLE of the country want debates.

Hillary wants debates.

The media wants debates.

The only person who DOESN'T want debates is Obama -- and that's because he's afraid he'll lose them. So why shouldn't people call him a fraidy cat? If it quacks like one...

Runaway Obama. He runs away from debates. He runs away from re-votes in FL and MI. He runs away from his past associations. He runs away from a fair fight. This is presidential timber? Har de har har!

Truman said, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." Obama says, "Hey, Guys, it's getting pretty hot in here. Could you turn down the heat for me?"

13. Hillary: Why do I always get the first question.
While Obama's cooking in the kitchen, Hillary's been digging through the garbage for things to pelt Obama with.

22. Thanks for serving as a willing prop. You, Fux Flunkie Wallace, and Hillary want more debates.
Truth is Hillary is trying hard to not confront her own irrelevance.

Obama's right. 21 media shows are enough. The next debate should be Obama-McSame. None of the other so-called candidates matter. I look forward to you joining our side.

28. Hillary wants a fair fight in front of an unbiased crowd.
Where's the whining in that?

I'll tell you where it is -- it's in the answer that comes from Obama, e.g., "NO, we don't wanna! We've already debated a bunch of times (four), plus the moderators will be mean to me again, plus it isn't fair that I have to work for this nomination. Alan Keyes wasn't NEARLY this mean to me."

Hillary ran and hid from her primary challenger repeatedly in 2006. The NYT called her out on it. Oh...what a difference a couple years make.

18. When? Where? Why? What's your source for that?
The truth is that the state Democratic Party had to CANCEL the already-scheduled debate because the Obama camp REFUSED to commit to the date.

Because Obama refused to confirm the date, the party did not have time to get another debate organized.
(IOW, Obama ran out the clock. He's good a running from things.)

So there is only one reason why there will be no debate in North Carolina (or anywhere else): Obama is a coward.

Obama runs away from debates. He runs away from revotes in FL and MI. He runs away from his past associations. He runs away from a fair fight. He's our little run run run run runaway.

Harry Truman said, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen."

Obama says, "Hey, Guys, it's getting a little warm in here. Could you turn down the heat on me a little?"

9. Notice Obama says "I'm not ducking one. We've had 21"
But Obama is asked directly about debating Clinton - not about every previous debate including all other candidates. There have only been four with just Clinton.

Crafty wording from Obama.

He has no obligation to engage in yet another debate after having 21, especially after that ambush of a "debate" at ABC.

Hillary can buy her own airtime from now on.

19. HRC wants an unmoderated debate
that is what I read. I can't even imagine - would it be a disaster? a comedy? I think it is a bad idea. 21 debates is enough - 4 with HRC alone is plenty. Refusing to debate doesn't make Obama look bad. It just makes him look like he is in control of the terms - it is HRC who is desperate for a debate. He has no reason to accomodate her when he can get his message out by going directly to the people!!!

43. You mean the last Obama/Clinton encounter was a debate?
The candidate who is desperately behind always wants more debates scheduled just like the boxer who is behind in the scoring always wants the opponent to stand still to be hit. Only those who have a cavalier attitude about winning stupidly give in to taunts. Obama is not stupid. Clinton knows that she is desperately losing and her time is running out. She cannot beat Obama on his stances and issues so she grasps at whatever she can find to trash or tar him.
