Hill challenges Barrack to Lincoln/Douglas type debate.
This essentially means a debate without moderators which will remove one plausible excuse for chickening out.
This would be an mouthwatering prospect. With her sharper intellect, debating skills, and keener grasp of the issues he would be torn to shreds. It will be interesting to see what evasive strategy he puts into operation.

7. I love the "chicken" insult. But as John Stewart has pointed out, Obama has already countered with
the "I'm rubber, you're glue" strategy.

Why waste the time or money on debating somebody who would need to capture 70% of the remaining vote to win?

It's Hillary's own strategy from New York, so the "rubber, you're glue" thing is actually applicable here, you are in essence calling Hillary the same insults you are Obama.

...

Not an issue.

She needs free media time.... he's under no obligation to provide oxygen to her dead campaign.

I wouldn't nibble at her catnip... side by side press conferences after 95% of the nation has already voted?

In the words of Princess Hillary, Whoop-de-doo.

13. Obama won't do it because its not rehearsed. When he is off a rehearsed message he makes gaffes.
I'm not so sure that Hillary can pull it off either but you better believe she will never back down.

19. He had the best improv comeback of the PA "debate":
Clinton started lashing out as his plan for social security. Obama countered that Hillary had no plan at all except to "form a committee to look into it". So instead of deferring, she continued to defend her lack of a plan by deferring to a future committee, and saying that's what Republicans did in 1983. Here's the transcript:

SENATOR CLINTON: ...with all due respect, the last time we had a crisis in Social Security was 1983. President Reagan and Speaker Tip O'Neill came up with a commission. That was the best and smartest way, because you've got to get Republicans and Democrats together.

That's what I will do. And I will say, number one, don't cut benefits on current beneficiaries; they're already having a hard enough time. And number two, do not impose additional tax burdens on middle-class families.

There are lots of ways we can fix Social Security that don't impose those burdens, and I will do that.

SENATOR OBAMA: That commission raised the retirement age, Charlie, and also raised the payroll tax. And so Senator Clinton, if she -- she can't have it both ways. You can't come at me for proposing a solution that will save Social Security without burdening middle- income Americans, and then suggest that somehow she's got a magic solution.

SENATOR CLINTON: But there are more progressive ways of doing it than, you know, lifting the cap. And I think we'll work it out. I have every confidence we're going to work it out. I know that we can make this happen.

They've had 21 debates thus far,

The last one was so incredibly biased.

Without Cronkite, Moyers, and Maddow as moderators, we have no hope.

Where are the league of women voters when you need them?

22. A) Obama is under no obligation to give Hillary free air time and B) His opponent is now John McCain

...Hillary is old news. The primary race is over, for anyone who passed 3rd-grade math.

Obama debating Clinton at this point is not much different than McCain debating Huckabee.

24. I don't believe Senator Clinto knows...
what a 'Lincoln-Douglas' debate is. If she just means a un-moderated free for all then Senator Obama makes a good tactical choice in turning her down. If she really means an LD debate in the full NFL format then it would be a great step upwards from anything I've ever seen touted as a 'debate' in US electoral politics.

Definition of 'Lincoln-Douglas' Debate

(Note: 'NFL' is not the National Football League :-)

(as long as anyone can keep posting the 'Lincoln-Douglas' canard I can keep pasting this in :-)
