Revisiting that Hillary Clinton quote on Southern Working Class Whites: "Screw 'Em"
Edited on Sat Apr-26-08 11:29 PM by FrenchieCat
I don't think that the media has been fair to Obama. It appears that this comment from Hillary Clinton has gotten no play....while the Bitterness comments played for about 2 weeks, if not longer.

I want an explanation from her as to why she said what she said.

Please rec this thread for more public notice.

I'm also writing to Indiana and North Carolina newspapers and Obama superdelegates and known supporters in that state to provide them with this info.

Thank you!

1. The question was whether to try to appeal to people who put Newt Gingrich into power.
Calling people who voted Republican in 1994 "Southern Working Class Whites" is spin.

Some Southern Working Class Whites voted for Democrats for the US House in 1994.

Some Southern rich whites voted for Republicans for the US House in 1994.

3. I didn't make that quote up.
Spin? What else is new though? Has Hillary ever met spin that she didn't like when it came to trashing others?

Didn't think so!

5. And trying to appeal to Bush voters (which is all Hillary was doing in PA and OH)
is ok....although she had blown them off earlier? What's the difference, exactly?

8. And we all know that the rich vastly outnumber the working class,
right?

She was NOT talking about rich republicans.

2. It's gotten no play because it's a lie. Obama actually made his bitter remarks (eom)

4. 3 eyes witnesses does not constitute a lie.
The writer that has it in his book for all to read has yet to be sued. Why is that?

6. Great links, FrenchieCat!
I found this from My Recollections of Hillary Clinton at the 1995 Camp David Meeting especially interesting:

"But what is clear in both in my memory and my notes is that there was extensive, hard-nosed discussion about why masses of voters did not support Clinton or trust government or base their choices on economic as opposed to what people saw as peripheral life-style concerns. Hillary Clinton was among the most cold-blooded analysts in attendance. She spoke of ordinary voters as if they were a species apart, and showed interest only in the political usefulness of their choices -- usefulness to the Clinton administration, that is."

7. K and R.
There's definitely a double standard at play here. It's interesting how little the MSM has said about the Two for One Presidency, apart from the recent Vanity Fair article. Hilary continues to push the idea that her time as First Lady gave her experience Obama is wanting. Why not explore in more detail just what comprised this experience? I doubt most voters would find her level of involvement-- involvement that often displaced the (elected) vice president appropriate.

9. rec'd
I have been wondering the same thing! Chris Matthews has become so smug and delirious over Hillary's ability to "become" a "regular person" (as opposed to a liberal white or an African American). But of course he knows it is an act - he admires the act and chutzpah; not sincerity.

10. SO much has gotten no play. Like the Rendell-Farrakhan video
Edited on Sun Apr-27-08 12:28 AM by chill_wind
that emerged just a day before the PA elections, while the MSM only went on and on about Obama's associations, and still is.

Like the total media blackout on PA election day lines and voting machine malfunctions...

Like the reality that 9.2 % is not in fact 10%-- and definitely isn't "double digits"

To name just a few things in the last week or two alone.

We need a major truth squad on the ground- right now- in IN and NC

11. Old news, $110M later and she's the model of working class heroine
Don't you realize she's been vetted, 35 years experience. Nothing to see here, keep it moving!

12. And don't forget Bubba!
"they're gonna pull in the next election is the same old scam they've been pulling on us for decade after decade after decade. When their economic policies fail, when the country's coming apart rather than coming together, what do they do? They find the most economically insecure white men and scare the living daylights out of them. "-- BILL CLINTON

13. And now that we know that works...
we'll just co-opt it, rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic and call it a "victory" for dems. That's the overwhelmingly sad, Machiavellian part of the tactics, from where I see it.
