22. Doesn't that suck?
I usually mention Richardson for VP because of his solid resume, especially in areas like energy and diplomacy, and I never consciously think "Oh shit, the sheeple will never vote for an African-American and a Latino on the same ticket".

Would that really lose the election in the 21st century? :evilfrown:

4. Richardson over Webb. Webb wrote a book called "Woman Can't Fight"...
He voted for Bush and Macaca in 2000, and was sworn in as senator barely over a year ago.

Why the hell are so many people infatuated with the idea of Webb on our ticket?

13. I think it's his outspoken criticism of the War that gets folks
and his well known military record and credibility

He's NOT DLC but the Governor of Virginia IS... will replace Webb with a DLC type in the Senate... and we need Webb right where he is.

6. Webb is the only VP who gives Obama a prayer at the GE
1) he has security credentials that can't be disputed
2) he is the tribune of working class whites who Obama struggles mightily with (he gets 35% of them against McSame according to the new Newsweek poll)
3) he is from the South and can potentially swing Virginia

VA has 13 electoral votes, tied for 12th most, and with Webb on the ticket could be in play.

7. As a Candidate,
one of the chief jobs of the VP is to be the hatchet man and go negative, leaving the presidential candidate above the fray.

Jim Webb is not only better equipped personalitywise, he has infinitely more credibility with conservatives of any party affiliation as Reagan's Secy of the Navy.

I like Richardson, but as a candidate, he doesn't inspire and doesn't bring the intangibles I think will be needed in what will probably be a close race.

8. I know you said you weren't interested in other
so I won't name anyone else. I'll just voice my concern about pulling too many people out of the US Senate with a slim majority. If faced with the two options, I'd go with Richardson. I like Webb he's a smart and honest guy and would make a hell of a VP. My thinking is though he should stay in the Senate. Just remember for everyone person pulled out of the US Senate, that's a seat open that we have to defend.

11. I want Howard Dean
I never get to vote for who I want in any of these polls

Your poll, neither, but Richardson over Webb. Richardson has
a lot of DLC taint, that I don't care for. Good Guy, but
not on my 'short' list. I wouldn't reject him though

Webb was a Repuglican for most of his life, I don't want
anyone that was connected to Reagan & the Repuglicans, next in line.

Also don't want anyone tied to the Military Industrial Complex that close
to the presidency, which rules out any GENERAL.

20. He has decided not to seek another term-updated
Edited on Sun Apr-27-08 12:44 AM by Ichingcarpenter
which ends in time to allow him to take
the nomination in August, without effecting the
election in the fall.

He's a Bulldog and can handle anything the GOP throws at him
rhetorically or ethically. Richardson and Webb can't or don't.

Dean would make a great foil to Obama that would allow
Obama to continue to take the High Road while Dean
could wrestle with the Repuglicans.

Dean can run my Party, he can run my Country.

The end of the DLC and a clean break for the New Administration.

But I'm hoping the good doctor will finish the job he started and rebuild this party. I don't see any reason why President Obama would want to replace him.

16. Two senators on a ticket is suicide.
Otherwise Webb might be a great candidate. Richardson has the right combination for this ticket. He's a governor from a "dark purple" (i.e. almost blue) western state, and his resume includes international diplomacy and a stint as energy secretary.

If Webb becomes VP, his replacement appointed by the governor will have a hard time winning in the special election in 2 years. It is very hard for a Democrat to win that seat in Virginia.

and sad as it is, I don't think we can win with 2 minorities on the ticket. I think he's going to have to pick a strong white guy to assuage whatever fears people in the middle might have.

I love Richardson. :loveya: He's going to make an awesome Sec. of State though, he might even be more beneficial for the country in that role than V.P. considering all of the diplomacy we so desperately need right now.

27. Webb, if we want any semblance of margin for error
The tactic of downplaying Florida is idiotic. Obama supporters, for all their math related posts, don't seem to have a clue in that regard. Florida is the definition of a swing state, 20% liberal and 34% conservative in the '04 exit poll. The states Obama supposedly wants to string together to replace Florida are further from our reach, like Nevada with 18% liberals and 37% conservatives, or Colorado with 35% conservatives. The self-identifying percentages are the closest link to voting tendency.

Virginia is slowly trending our way but no chance we win there minus a national avalanche, or an artificial boost like Webb for VP. It should be worth the typical 3-3.5 points. That might not be enough, given Obama's weakness with swing white voters, but it can't be understated what Virginia's 13 electoral votes would mean to the electoral landscape. It's potentially the ability to lose both Florida and Ohio and still sneak to 270.

28. Brian Schweitzer, Gov of Montana... all the way
I am all for Schweitzer. The guy can translate the progressive agenda into everyman words. Just look up some of his appearances on Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUr48lg9Ocs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0i9o-ThOPM

He is an expert in agriculture and renewable energy. He is anti Washington, pro-gun, pro-choice, and a progressive on most issues.

They would totally side-step McCain as the Washington insider that he is.

As for speaking Arabic:
