What Marks the Silly Season? Obama's Black Support

I mentioned here a while ago that I had to cease all discussions about the election with my cousins, rabid ardent Obama supporters, because they would sometimes get so heated. Spice and I can't talk about it either--same for a host of my other family members and friends. This morning, one of my cousins baited me and I bit and a mini-war of words ensued. One of my cousins stated that she wouldn't vote for Hillary if she is the nominee and that Hillary has shown how dirty she will get to win. I went off. What in the world has Hillary done that's been so dirty? I told my cousins, "Hillary didn't release the Rev. Wright tapes! Hillary didn't release the information about William Ayers! Hillary didn't make him befriend Rezko!" I let them have it. One of my cousins, showing just how ill-informed so many Black voters are said that at no time in history have Republicans been in the White House for 12 years straight.............................................I reminded her about Reagan and GHWB. Twelve years of Republican rule. I told her that if Obama is handed that nomination, she may as well prepare herself for McCain to serve his four years because he will eat Obama alive.

I think that one of the things that we will all have learned after this primary and election season is over, is that we must all be better informed in order to make intelligent decisions where politcs are concerned. Last week, I received an email from Allhiphop.com with the title, "Rappers Get Political; Encourage Youth To Vote". I'm all for that, except the undertone was that these rap stars were going to roll up into Philly and get the youth to vote, thereby crushing Clinton and giving Obama claim to the nomination. Mogul Russell Simmons, who I respect in so many ways--in other ways not so much--had this to say in the article:

"The fact is that young people have more compassion and vision, while the old people have built this mess and don't have the collective faith that they can make a real change. I believe We need the hip hop community to pick this next president. And I have faith that they will. Pennsylvania is where we start to prove that."

((Word is, Barack Obama loves the work of rapper Jay Z. If it's true, that's one thing we share because I like a lot of Jay's music myself. But, I'm not running for president, leader of the free world and Obama apparently loves Jay Z so much, back in January he walked into a gathering of his supporters after the Iowa Caucus while the song "99 Problems" was blasting. Very dumb...and arrogant... Obama: 99 Problems and A Bitch(es) Is One...http://sugarnspice.typepad.com/ ))

So uninformed it's laughable. Apparently, African-Americans only make up 10% of the population in Pennsylvania so there wasn't a snowcone's chance in hell of African-Americans "picking the next president" in PA. Basically, these rubes rappers got in their Hummers and hopped on their charter jets and flew into Philly, not even aware that they just didn't have enough people to "make a real change"...ROTFLMBAO. It's that old silly illusion of real power.

Wake up my brothers and sisters. Voting for Hillary is not about "dissing", "bashing", "tearing down" or "trashing" Obama. It's about making an honest attempt to win back the White House so that this nation can once again breathe a sigh of relief. Besides, fuck you if you still find it necessary to question my loyalty to my people. It is because I feel for the situation that so many are in, the poor and downtrodden of all races, that I want Hillary to win. Obama is a sure thing to lose. Hillary at least has a chance. --SUGAR

I think Sugar and Spice say it, spot on....

2. Thank you for posting this, indimuse. I can't talk politics to a few of my friends anymore.
But interestingly, several family members have become quite disillusioned with Obama, and think he should be Hillary's VEEP. He showed in PA (for anyone who doubted) that he is not ready for the top spot. And he's an arrogant sexist.

3. Hillary does NOT have a chance; she will lose miserably to McCain.
Edited on Sun Apr-27-08 06:43 AM by sparosnare
Listen up SUGAR. There are plenty of people like myself who are progressive, intelligent and well-informed, lived through the Clinton years and see in Obama the chance this nation has to "breathe a sigh of relief". We are dedicated and loyal Democrats. Over the past couple of months, we have watched in horror as Hillary has maligned not only Obama but his supporters, effectively turning off white Democrats (you know, that group that supposedly votes for Hillary).

If Hillary would be the nominee, her supporters are sorely mistaken if they think the party will magically come together behind her. It isn't that easy and there's no way in hell this woman will be able to win the presidency let alone help the poor and downtrodden of all races.

Edited on Sun Apr-27-08 06:45 AM by bowens43
Morally and ethically, there is little difference between hillary and McCain. Winning is not always winning. I will not vote for the lesser of two evils this time around. We finally have a chance to change the course of politic in this country . Hillary, as she has shown us, is more of the same /bush/clinton/bush/rove politics.....

No thanks. Better to lose with Obama (not that Obama will lose) then 'win' with the likes of hillary.

will never play nice with Obama. Even if he wins in November, they will do their best to minimize him for four years then blame him for doing nothing. We need a fighter. Someone ruthless enough to eviserate the Republicans and compassionate enough to be a Democrat.

Go Hillary!

10. One major determining factor... Snipers
That's no contrived smear... those lies emanated right from Hillary's mouth... over and over until she got caught.
Those blatant self-serving confabulations should disqualify her from any public office... especially President.
How anyone can rationalize voting for such a liar is truly amazing. Caveat emptor.

14. As I have stated in a few other posts.
As far as I am concerned this photo is representative to me how ugly and dirty HRC&CO have made this campaign. For example, in the last debate, not once but TWICE she tried to tie Obama to Farrakhan and Hamas via Rev Wright. She knows it's garbage but she just continues to get dirtier and dirtier.

So until she cleans up her act and runs at least a fair campaign the photo stays.

as monolithic and that speaks with one voice. That is nonsense of course but with Obama it has been far more unified in its voting patterns.

29. HA! omg, what an INCREDIBLY HONEST and refreshing blog!

QUOTE:

Boy, you white folks had better watch out in the coming days because Obama is now turning his attention to trying to shame your bitter asses into voting for him. He's almost finished working over black folks as there are only a couple states left with sizable African-American populations for him to shake down for votes, but you white folks? He's got a sweet, stiff deck of race cards and he's going to be slamming them down left-and-right! Sweet Jesus Harold Christ, watch out! Incoming!!!

I was telling a friend of mine earlier today that I'm so disgusted with the way the words racism and racist are being tossed about so casually in light of this election. Like the boy who cried wolf, if Obama keeps dropping those Aces the way he has, pretty soon nobody will believe real, valid claims of racism ..

35. No, actually S&S has it completely and totally wrong.
Clinton is by far the most likely to lose. Erratic, irrational, inexperienced, and pursuing a strategy that completely disregards the Democratic bases of young people, black voters, and the anti-war crowd. Not to mention having a 50% absolute-negative rating and a 15-year history of scandal, hatred, and an ability to motivate the right-wing like no one else in politics.

By the way, if you bothered to know anything, you'd be aware that the "99 Problems" story was a completely false right-wing bullshit story put out by Drudge and Fox. The video of that event shows that no such song ever played. So either "Sugar and spice" is lying, or they're critically misinformed.

I don't get it, but I think it is important that no one takes our votes for granted.

But, "What marks the silly season? OBAMA'S BLACK SUPPORT"??? Was it also the silly season in 2000 when 90% of us voted for Gore?

Could it be that many black people are supporting Obama because he represents change? That many of us are sick and tired of the bushes AND the clintons? I, for one, entered this primary season as an ABC - I would be cheering on ANYONE over hillary. My dislike and distrust of her has since grown exponentially. That it is Obama who has survived - an intelligent, forward-thinking man who just happens to share my skin tone - makes supporting him that much sweeter.

45. Yet another DAMAGE CONTROL POST from a Hillary Campaign OP at DU.
I can spot these from a mile away.

African-American's are not as gullable as the Hillary campaign would like. They know the "code words (dog whistles)" and have seen Hillary and her husband use them consistently during this campaign.

The Clinton's took African-Americans for granted and are paying for the mistake of discounting a large section of the electorate...just because they thought the African-American vote was ENTITLED to them.

Peoples, regardless of creed or color, do NOT like being discounted or taken advantage of.
