70. They are tipping the Clinton hand.
They know it's over. They know she lost. Her latest, and only, hope is to be a VP.

She burned that bridge long ago. Hillary would NEED Obama to win the GE. Obama does not need Hillary on his ticket to win the GE.

This idea is being pushed, because she has lost.

9. It hurts my feelings that Bill Bradley is excluded from the list.
Edited on Sun Apr-27-08 06:05 PM by Old Crusoe
And although he is distinctly unpopular among many DUers, Tom Daschle should be considered for the list. I believe Daschle, an Obama supporter very, very early in the game, is destined to be on that shortlist and/or the Chief of Staff in the Obama White House.

While Hagel is refreshing on the Iraq issue, I'm a lot less enthused about his voting record overall, which is the politest way I can phrase it on a family site.

Boxer would scare the bejesus out of a lot of voters but by god I love her.

Sebelius is a woman of extraordinary dignity, IMO, and would be a plus. And from red Kansas no less!

Chafee, at first glance, wouldn't seem to have much of a chance for consideration, but let's watch to see if he quietly registers as a Democrat in RI in the coming weeks. That might be a signal that he hopes for a part to play in the Obama Cabinet somewhere.

I think Bill Richardson might represent the winning percentage among Hispanic voters, whose support we need.

Looking forward to your polls.

17. Agreed. On Chafee, here's a quote from Tavis Smiley show this week:
Smiley: Are you considering running for RI Governor in 2010?
Chafee: "Luckily 2010's a ways off, and I am supporting Senator Obama's presidential candidacy, and I'll do anything the campaign wants me to do, so we'll see what happens down the road..."

Doesn't mean VP, but suggests that he's keeping his schedule open for an appointment, doesn't it?

56. I like what I heard from Schweitzer a month or so ago on the Thom Hartmann show.
Great governor for Montana, but doesn't add a lot to the ticket. We might pick up Montana as a result, but it's not exactly an electoral giant. And with Montana going for both Schweitzer and Tester in recent years, the state just might turn blue anyway.

Besides, if Schweitzer did accept, could Montana find a worthy replacement?

They told me she was not only respectful of their questions and concerns, but extremely prepared to discuss the issue from a variety of angles. They came away fiercely ready to support her indefinite re-election to the Congress.

to accomplish first for example

Geographic balance
Ideological Balance

I think that the over riding point will have to be a major Clinton supporter.

It sounds macabre, but so is not planning these things. If LBJ had been a dove who would have pulled back from Vietnam, maybe JFK's assassination never happens.

Somebody even more progressive than Obama. Also, that way Obama can transition us away from the Bush regime and lead us down the road to further progressivism, handing off to his groomed VP in 2016.

Edwards. If not, Edwards as AG.

66. I've seen way too many sad narratives of extremely promising candidates
from the 60s on to even let it come into my mind. I'm not disputing your look up and down the road at all, guyanakoolaid, but just saying that emotionally, I have to hope from the best from my deep bones that no harm comes to any candidate.

I think grantcart downthread put some excellent considerations on the table as starting points, and I can't improve on that but will say that with the disaffected Hillary Clinton supporters, Gov. Sebelius and Speaker Pelosi may actually have an inside track, especially with the wiley under-handed strategy McCain could invoke by appointing Kay Bailey or Condiliar.

Edwards? I'd love that. Either as veep or as AG, but certainly some very prominent and influential role. His domestic agenda is still tops with me.

Edited on Sun Apr-27-08 06:16 PM by JaneQPublic
Colin Powell.

He has as much defense/foreign affairs cred as one person could possibly bring.

He's hinted in interviews that he could support Obama.

He would bring along a ton of Independents and maybe even a few Repubs.

And as far as having two African Americans on the ticket, ya gotta figure that anyone who wouldn't vote for two on the ticket already wouldn't vote for one at the head of the ticket, regardless of the VP choice.

I think he'd have a credibility problem. I'd be a little angry at this choice but maybe that's just me.

62. Not just no, but HELL no!
If Colin Powell wants to do the smart thing and vote for Obama, great. But he can never be trusted again. Not after he FUCKING LIED to the UN, which directly led to the illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq.

POWELL: And a vial like this could contain enough anthrax to......
CHIMPY: Hey, has anybody seen my coke??
POWELL: Shaddup, Junior!!

69. How about Kent Conrad?
He's probably too much of a moderate for many people here, but I think he'd make a good running mate for Obama. He's very good in interviews, he's a down to earth midwesterner, and his gun control and abortion positions would probably help bring in some independents.

He'd give Obama a good chance of winning North Dakota, which wouldn't that useful since it only has 3 electoral votes, but he'd probably also help in mountain states and midwestern states like Minnesota, Colorado and Iowa.

80. Miss DisUnity cannot be part of any Unity ticket
that's why a unity ticket that included Hillary cannot be a unity ticket

She's the living essence of "out of control." She would drag the ticket down to certain doom, by energizing the right, alienating the indies, and running off the young and black.
