so, what are the long term effects of Clinton's "scorched earth" policy... |
|
discuss several components:
1. what is the long term effect on the democratic party 2. what is the long term effect on Obama's candidacy 3. on her own political viability.
I'm pretty old, coming up on 50, and I don't recall such a destructive DEMOCRATIC primary. They probably happened, and I was too young to recall, but in recent memory, this is the most despicable thing I've ever seen.
so, yes, I'm partisan I guess. but your responses don't have to agree with me. I just want to discuss what is to me an historic chain of events.

Obam a is being 'knee-capped' and he is the only chance we have to get away from the current global corruption and warmongering.

It could depend upon how this thing ends. |
|
As rahm and Dean said, the way the loser wins, will be as important as how the winner wins. So to be honest we probably won't have a good grasp on this until after november. If the democrats win, I think it'll be less destructive than if they lose (after a disive process)

1. Hopefully nothing long lasting to the party as a whole, but maybe the end of the DLC. 2. Could cost him the GE. 3. Could cost her Senate seat in her next bid, but I personally see her running for Pres again in 2012 and not for the Senate.

8. as to your number 1: from your lips to God's ears, |
|
to number 2: I hope not. to number 3: probably.
unfortunately, I think the longer this drags on, the more likely 2 and 3 are.
I don't think the DLC will ever disappear completely.

4. Too soon to answer #1 and #2, but as far as #3 I think she's thoroughly screwed herself. |
|
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if she lost in the Senate primary next time around.

the combatants roll away and leave the population to die.
If it succeeds there will not be any Democratic Party to fight over anymore.

11. this is what I'm concerned about, it would be a pyrrhic victory if scorched earth actually worked. |
|
it would mean the end of the party, as we now know it.

1) if hillary drops out when Obama reaches 2024, and vocally and enthusiastically supports him, the impact is negligable. If the SDs give it to her with Obama maintaining a pd and pop vote lead, the damage is huge. If it goes to the convention, it's considerable.
2) See above.
3) I believe she's done a lot of damage to her politcal future already. Depending on her future actions, it'll get a lot worse.

12. thanks for your post. I think your second part of number one would be disastrous |
|
it that happened (supers anointing the loser of the popular vote and pledged delegates) it could only mean that a pressure stronger than the super's own careers came to bear on them. I have some ideas what that would entail, but we would likely never know for sure.
