Did the VP Pick really come first by email?
I just received an email alert about this article from CNN and checked it out, but I don't know that I agree... hadn't it been reported in the press before the email went out?

Don't get me wrong... I'm definately down with the Kerry/Edwards Administration (just thinking ahead, there)... It just seemed like it might be a little disingenuous to say that supporters got the email first.

Edwards news was on Internet first: The Web has accelerated the pace of political campaigns

Tuesday, July 6, 2004 Posted: 7:41 PM EDT (2341 GMT)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- The hottest political news of the summer arrived on a tide of spam Tuesday morning as Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry sent an e-mail announcing Sen. John Edwards would be his running mate.

A half-hour after Kerry called Edwards to offer him the vice-presidential slot, 1 million Kerry supporters received an e-mail explaining that the North Carolina senator "understands and defends the values of America."

"You are the heart and soul of this campaign," Kerry's message said. "Because of your incredible grassroots energy and commitment, I wanted to make the first official announcement of my decision to you."

Minutes later, the Republican National Committee fired off a response: "Who is John Edwards? A disingenuous, unaccomplished liberal and friend to personal injury trial lawyers."

1. My CNN breaking news email hit my mailbox before the Kerry official email
But since I turned on CNN the minute I awoke, I knew before I checked email.

4. The very first emails broke the news...
I did not end up getting my email until about 1:30 PM EST

Joe Trippi explained last night on Hardball that to reach a million emails it can take 7-8 hours.

6. The OFFICIAL announcement came via e-mail
From the Kerry campaign. All the major networks were reporting Edwards before the e-mail, but it was considered "unofficial."
