I watched Moyer's interview on Friday night. Wright is no fool. He HAS to know that every time he says something, anything, regardless how innocuous, the press goes nuts. So why does he oblige them Obviously, the Obama campaign wants Wright to take a nice long post-retirement vacation. Wright (I'm sure) has been told that. So my question is- What is Wright doing? Is he trying to sink Obama?

Wright's speech is doing the same thing that Obama's famous race speech from a few weeks ago did - it humanizes Wright.

The MSM, right wingers and Clintonistas would have Wright continuously caricatured as that "God damn America" cartoon character every day from now to Election Day in November.

No no no. We get to see the real Rev. Wright. For those of you actually listening to his speech, you get to see that he is an intelligent, passionate, funny and articulate individual who is worthy of our ears and our respect.

and just like last time folks will mostly view the bits in this speech where he comes across as politically incorrect. Out of context, it will be pushed by Obama's opponents as representative of virulent ideology.
Wright is just of a different generation, Obama explained that and encouraged a forum where people understood justifiable frustration at a system that mis-classifies normal black children .

But to the uninitiated this "uplift" speech will be presented as menacing. Obama's opponents know better but they are "in it" to "win it" and in this case will negatively "spin it".

Playing on racist fears. I can see it now, opponents will say "don't look at Obama, focus on the man behind the curtain 'Rev. Wright', isn't he just like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan?". And for some people, those kind of associations is enough to motivate them strongly, aggressively, to work against Obama.

and, it would be odd as the NAACP, is a civil rights organization. Years ago when they considered changing the name to replace "colored" to African-Americans, the membership decided to keep it for colored people as they had championed causes of all people of color not just african-americans. If you attend NAACP functions they are inclusive not exclusive so yes I would find it odd.

And in fact Wright did talk unity (though I doubt those clips will make it to youtube) too but the sound bytes when he talked "uplift" will be taken out of context. And, it is not necessary to talk as if african-americans are under attack in this day and age, but it is important to raise awareness about systemic racism. Afrocentrism does not play to a larger audience and to only talk to the initiated is like preaching to the choir, that is not the way to bring about change.

but why oh why did he have to do that lame JFK impersonation. JFK is sacred to Irish Dems... Yes Soledad O'Brien is half-Irish and she was cool about it but Bill Clinton is Irish American too. Bill met Kennedy when he was a kid and I'm sure he is going to milk that clip as insulting to JFK's memory when he speaks to Irish and Scotch-Irish Dems, even probably condemn Ted Kennedy if he doesn't say something about it. Bill knows the deal, in the last 45 years, the only democrats to be elected President have been Southerners, Clinton, Carter and Gore (LBJ wasn't elected). This is serious. Clinton knows the numbers, you have to the Southern Dem vote. Tuesday is NC, and Clinton's strategy will be to really push these sound bytes behind closed doors and connect them to the rhetoric of Jackson, Sharpton, and Farrakhan. This will hurt Obama a little Tuesday and a lot at the Dem Convention when Clinton reminds the Democratic party what it already knows. Nationally dems outnumber republicans but always lose the presidency because the Southern Dems who vote Dem in the primaries vote Republican in the national election. A Dem can't when without Southern Dems on board, it's pure math.

Not to mention that LBJ is a hero in Texas. Obama has a lot of support in Texas. I volunteered for Obama down there and it was great to see.
I just wish Wright would leave the generalizations out of it the whole matter is quite complex. Speaking with an accent (or writing with shortened txt :evilgrin:) and being able to read and comprehend complex material are two completely different things. In fact, this was a subsersive tactic some blacks used to build trust in whites who would discuss tactics and assume their black servants couldn't understand much and consequently were incapable of relaying what they heard to their enemies. But the average American doesn't care about the origination of their impression that blacks who don't speak good English are unintelligent.

I truly hope you are right about the youtubing but based on typical racial political strategy this will get pushed as as black man who hates whites. And, since Obama has already distanced himself from Wright, he can't exactly come out and disseminate like he did last time and explain that Wright was laying out the systemic racism against black children and used those examples to show that whites in similar circumstances are not viewed negatively. Look it's not taught in schools so for the whites who have never thought deeply about it and especially those who feel threatened to hear it, there was enough in that speech to cause them to shut down completely fearing their interests will be ignored by an Obama presidency.
