Hillary supporter here. I'll say it: Rev. Wright was GREAT this morning. |
|
Very thoughtful, not bombastic. Learned and thoughtful. Good job, sir.

3. I thought it started out well, but he fell back on his racist, divisive bullshit about |
|
learning differences between blacks and white. His statement about this being an attack on the black church is BULLSHIT. This is about HIS crazy talk. What an egomaniac.

12. Me too. I started a thread saying the same thing. But as he has gone on, I have been turned |
|
off and dismayed. This is NOT about the black church. This is about Rev. Jeremiah Wright making some controversial, often racist, divisive comments. He's very disingenuous about that. Not good, for a pastor, don't you think? http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=5715227&mesg_id=5715227

8. I dunno. I want to like this, but it seems very confrontational. |
|
He doesn't seem as interested in reaching understanding so much as combatting his detractors. He could probably be more persuasive. He's right, but he's not really winning anyone over.

14. Yeah. The more I watched, the more I enjoyed it. |
|
There were some times where it seemed like he just wanted to get in his detractors face and mock them. Which he did a very good job of, mind you. The Cheney line was priceless, as was the line about Muslims and Jesus. He is a more righteous and a smarter man than the people criticizing him, of that there is no doubt, but I imagine he pissed a lot of people off as well.
And of course, the OP was won over somewhat, but you get what I'm saying.

10. It's strange how he rejects traditional European framework, yet holds up his service in the army as |
|
proof that he's not anti-American. No I'm not saying he's anti-American, that's not my point. What I am saying is that for someone who seems to actively reject conventional wisdom it's strange that he touts military experience as proof of patriotism.

13. But he juxtaposed that with uber-patriot Cheney, |

Sound bite of the day (and I know how much the Reverend hates sound bites), and I'm glad someone finally had the balls to say it.

he is explaining the differences between black culture and white culture..... does not mean he is rejecting one...or saying one is better....just different. It does not make him racist...
Pointing out the very obvious differences between male and female does not make one sexist either....
Differences are just that......differences....not good, bad, right, or wrong.

16. So why did he say "Hillary ain't never been called a n***er"? No, but she's been called b***h and |
|
c***t. That sounded to me like he was saying that Hillary's life experience was not only different from Obama's, but it was also better.

18. You know, I still don't like those comments |
|
Specifically, "Hillary ain't never been called a n****r" and "GDA." But this morning's speech about reconciliation was good, and from an objective AND theological perspective, he was right on the money.
I thought some of the questions asked of him after the speech were horseshit, and frankly I was a little afriad that's where he'd go off again. But he handled them well and with some pointed humor. Particularly the one about "Obama is a lousy church member if he never heard those sermons ...," Wright's reply was priceless!
I'm sure a lot of Obama supporters have me on Ignore, so they'll miss hearing me actually PRAISE Rev. Wright.
I don't know if this will ultimately defuse the "Wright issue," but if anyone was paying attention, he did a great job today.
