Wow! 28 posts about the Rev. Wright and not ONE attacking John McLame!
What does that tell you about DU and the discipline needed to focus on the REAL enemy here: John McSameasBush?

Can we please take a deep breath and THINK about how to best use our time, our energy and our website? I feel certain that we are attracting more new voters to the Democratic ranks. What we need to do, IMHO, is provide them (and any of us who need to know) cannon fire back at the Republicans.

Fiddling while Rome burns...

7. He doesn't have to
nobody believes that he's McCain's pastor, so he'll never be asked.

Hagee's church is in San Antonio, TX, and is a different denomination than McCain's. Only people trying to diminish the Wright controversies push this silly idea.

28. No
it means something. What exactly, I can't say. But it doesn't make Hagee McCain's pastor, no matter how much you want it to be so.

12. McLame has spoken about this. I saw a clip. He made a clear delineation
between having the man as a pastor (attending services over and over) and justhaving a person, whohappens to be a pastor, come out in support of your candidacy.

While I think McLame is a lying sack of crap, his words are sure to satisfy some smug repukes, make no mistake about it.

15. yes, I agree, this will be the Republicans' "justification"
Edited on Mon Apr-28-08 09:49 AM by ErinBerin84
The MSM won't touch Hagee or Parsley, because they suckle the corporations. Didn't McCain once introduce Parsley as "his spiritual guide"?( or was it just "a spirtual guide). The MSM dismisses it because they are like "well, he just needed to pander to get those evangelicals, so it's all good". Bleh.

16. We can still pepper our LTTEs with Hagee's more outrageous remarks
and then simply ask "Why do you think this man has given his support to John McCain?"

Just keep it out there and never let it go.

6. I see
Self-promotion or the right of a man to defend himself from false accusations and slander? Personally I lean towards the latter.

21. Book sales - he is promoting a new book and himself
it doesn't matter how "right" he is, this is not the time to divide people
away from Obama.

WRight makes Obama seem controversial and divisive, which isn't correct, but its the
sum total result of his self promotional tour.

We firmly believe in the saying: "We have met the enemy and he is us". Eating our own is our specialty. Tastes like chicken.

thread but no one is interested. I haven't watched the MSM coverage of Wright. I think McCain is a terribly weak candidate if anyone was willing to actually focus on this.

14. We should PICK an issue, ANY issue, and compare/contrast McLame against
either Democratic candidate.

I'll start the ball rolling. Here is a great piece from Krugman in today's NY Times re McSame and Bush on taxes: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/28/opinion/28krugman.html?_r=1&ref=opinion&oref=slogin

19. This should both alarm and inspire ...
"As the designated political heir of a deeply unpopular president — according to Gallup, President Bush has the highest disapproval rating recorded in 70 years of polling — John McCain should have little hope of winning in November. In fact, however, current polls show him roughly tied with either Democrat."

Alarm because McCain should be trailing by more and inspire because it shows exactly how weak McCain really is.

22. the MSM doesn't take its cues from DU and most people won't see your posts here
with what, 116 million people in the US - they will sit down and watch television at the end
of their busy work day. They will not likely be on the computer checking DU.

I have many good democratic friends who don't get their news off of the internet,
who work all day and come home to MSM.

23. But we get new people coming to DU all the time, Plus many of us older
DUers can't have the whole picture all of the time.

Let's get all our ammo together and talk to those people who work all day and come home to the MSM. Let's say "Did you know that McCain's tax policy is just gonna be a continuation of Bush's policies?" Or on the issue of a woman's right to choose. Or the "hundred years in Iraq" statement. Hammer, hammer, hammer.

Forget Wright. We've lost in the MSM on that one. Ignore him and push OUR OWN agenda. It's the only way, folks...

24. Yes, but what else is new? That has been the case in every elec tion.
Racism has and will be with us for a really long time, if not forever. I for one am not going to be having any fainting spells over that, I am going to concentrate on fighting it.

But we need to be sane and clear. Obama's speech after the first Wright episode shows the way to do this, IMO. And it was widely admired even in the MSM. There's a winning strategy right there.

Since McCain won his primary, he is being discussed in GD. GDP is being reserved for the infighting that is, er, unique to this forum.

26. True enough. But ALL Rev. Wright ALL of the time?
Or do you see GD:P as a kind of "venting" place for folks to rant (which it may have evolved into)? Not disagreeing so much as seeing lots of energy going to a losing strategy. Maybe segregating this stuff into GD:P wasn't such a hot idea after all. It seems to be stimulating more hatred among ourselves than forming a strong band of support for a candidate.

But maybe this IS what everyone but me wants to talk about incessantly. I think it has gone foolishly off track and is a waste of our time. It just enables us to fall into the trap of the repubs. They must be delighted to see this thing just go and go like the Energizer Bunny...

35. I defend your right to defend him. I question whether all this attention here
is time well spent. But do defend him with your political speech in a LTTE or among other people who may not have heard of the distortions that the media has spread.

Just be aware that this is the kind of thing the MSM always does and we have to think about our strategy here. Endless wrangling every time Wright gives a speech is what they want us to preoccupy ourselves with. God forbid we should actually be preparing/launching strikes against McSame!
