Separation of Church and State
I just watched Reverend Wright's latest news conference on MSNBC. I think this creates a dilemma for Barack Obama. No doubt, it will play very well in the black community. However, and unfortunately, it will not play as well with many white folks.

Once again, Obama will need to address this issue. Perhaps he should remember the verse in the Bible that says "Give unto Caesar that which is Ceasar's and unto God that which is God's.." Reverend Wright will have to do what he is called to do and Barack Obama will have to do what he is called to do. I'm sure God has plan for both of them?

This whole controversy revives the old argument about separation of church and state. Intentionally or not, and I think it is not intentional, Reverend Wright's message is divisive at this time. And there is a time and place for everything under Heaven. In my humble opinion, Barack Obama is the true Christian in this debate. he is trying to unite and heal our nation. Reverend Wright's message does not accomplish that.

This entire controversy has put Senator Obama's candidacy into jeopardy. He will likely lose Indiana and the race in North Carolina will be very close and he could possibly lose there also, unless he can address this issue in a way that will convince the majority of people in this country that Jeremiah Wright will not be a close adviser in his Administration. Unless he can do that, we shall reap the whirlwind.

1. Separation of Church and State only works for republicans. Notice how Huckabee says that
Wright does not speak for Obama BUT no one reports that one. This country is not ready for a black president regardless. All the talking points against Obama are character assassination type things.

5. "the true Christian.."
as described in the Scriptures. As I said, it is my "humble opinion". And you are entitled to yours.

6. It's like Obama was trying to say, people vote on wedge issues like
Religion, instead of focusing on health care, the Iraq war, the economy, etc. But it seems like the Rev. Wright like the media attention and has found a excuse to come out and speak.

10. Huh??
What is a "true Christian"? Why are white folks afraid of the truth?

As for a time and place for everything, who gets to make that decision?

So far I've seen two posts that want to stifle free speech to make political gain, kind of like being PC.

I had a 1st Sergeant who once told me that being politically correct meant you lacked integrity.

If Senator Obama can't overcome this with his message then duct taping Reverend Wright's mouth isn't going to make any difference to those "white folks" you describe!!!

How does this have anything to do with the separation of church and state, Reverend Wright isn't part of the Obama campaign, and Senator Obama isn't praising the reverend.

11. All excellent points..
But political reality is separate from your reality and my reality, in my opinion. I am a strong Obama supporter and I hope I am wrong.

12. ok -- i've stayed quiet on this -- because i don't support barack at all.
but rev wright has hit the right note and the right time to let america in on something they've never seen before -- and to let america be exposed to some feelings they did not know exist.

there are many white churches moving strongly in the direction of trinity as an answer to fundamentalism -- it isn't just african american churches.

the episcopal church, the methodists, the lutherens -- are all, all moving strongly in a similar direction.

that means there are millions of receptive listeners to what wright is talking about -- more -- their not even unfamiliar with it.

mostly wright represents a tempest in a tea pot.

if you don't go to a liberal church -- first please understand millions do -- second what wright has said isn't unfamiliar or even unaddressed.
