If Obama is going down, he's going down swinging... |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-28-08 09:50 AM by Bonobo
The man is taking a gamble the likes I have never seen in my 25 years of watching politicians. He is gambling that the American people are intelligent enough to be told complex truths. Over and over again, he has risked this. The way people first said he was too bookish, that his answers were too "scholarly".
He took the chance with the speech against the war so early in 2002, when almost no other politicians were speaking out against the war and when Hillary, having dipped her big toe in the pool of public opinion and finding the water too cold, was actively cheerleading the war.
He took the chance in the unprecedentedly frank speech on Race he gave.
He took the chance when he spoke, shortly afterwards, on the Economy and was the first I can remember seeing who said that the crumbling Economy was directly LINKED to the "war" in Iraq.
He takes the chance every time he doesn't fire back against the dirty attacks made against him.
Big chances. Big payoff. And what is the payoff?
The payoff will be that the Media will have to accept the fact that their soundbyte bullshit is no longer effective in fooling the people and the people THEMSELVES, realizing that their fellow Americans are not being taken in so much, will be empowered and emboldened to speak out for more of their rights -seeing now that they will be heard if they shout together. You can scoff at this idea, but look at the numbers of people being brought into the process, the money from the people. It is unprecedented and we are in completely unknown territory.
The Media doesn't know whether to shit or giggle.
Obama is rewriting the rules already. Imagine what his Presidency might accomplish. If he wins, it will be an enormous mandate from a broad swathe of citizens. It will mean that the Media could not define the man for us. It would mean that the Media bubble would be publicly pierced. A very good first step towards recalibrating the scale that has had the Corporate Media thumb on it for so long.

6. You are exactly right in regards to the media. Listening to Mika after |
|
Wright's speech this morning, she was saying how he some a lot of good things that need to be talked about in this country (paraphrased), but that this was going to hurt Obama. What??? How can both of those things be true? The media doesn't know how to spin this anymore, especially when at least some of these folks see that what Wright is saying is, pardon the pun, right.

7. Why does everyone think these "pundits" understand the cognitive powers of the People? |
|
Take a look at the latest This Modern World. It is spot on. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=5710441Everything adapts. The people have adapted and eveolved to some degree after the steady diet of bullshit from the CNNFOXMSNBC people. Why would anyone expect otherwise. The first people to understand that change will be the people themselves, the last few will be the Media and the Corporations and the Politicians will be bringing up the rear.

15. The "pundits" have become so terribly distanced from the people |
|
that they don't have a clue what the country actually thinks. And they don't have a clue how to handle the changes. I believe this country is going through an uprising, though it's not an uprising in the historical sense. People are realizing that the media does not serve them well, and are looking for new ways to get honest information. Our soundbite world, hopefully, is going to come to an end, as more and more people wake up.

11. I'd earlier wanted to hear more from him, which is why I supported Edwards, and Dean in 2004 too... |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-28-08 10:08 AM by calipendence
I was skeptical of what his true motivations were and what he would really do.
But seeing the way that Dean and Edwards were "taken out" by Korporate Amerika before they were able to get any kind of leverage when they ran, I'm now thinking he's balancing out what he says appropriately, and am really hoping that after he gets elected he can be a lot more straight forward with an agenda that supports the people's wishes, and not Korporate Amerika's... I think that's why we are seeing such an onslaught trying to push him out now. They are scared, and he's not giving as much ammunition that Dean and Edwards this time around have given Korporate Amerika to go after them with.
Hope that if and when he does get in as president, he fixes this broken system so that future candidates can be more up front and honest about being "the people's candidate" than they are allowed to today, and not feel like they will be muscled out by the Korporate Amerika types. Then perhaps we can really focus on electing the right people in government top to bottom to fix the so many neglected problems that are killing our country to satisfy the greed and powermongering of these Korporate monster elites...

If the super-rich have-mores are able to install puppet McCain or puppet Clinton, it would tell me that America can't be salvaged in its present configuration.

explains exactly why he is a vital threat to the $tatu$ quo of the last 40+ years--and why they will find it imperative to go on making every attempt to destroy him. They will have ample help from the usual right-wing establishment and the HRC support camp.
We haven't seen anything yet, because I think they've had all their stock footage and ammunition against Hillary Clinton neatly indexed and ready to go for the GE- done and ready a long time ago already-- and thought their job was going to be a piece of cake.
He's a problem. They didn't truly foresee him. You could clearly see that in the very first primary returns.

25. Winner, winner, chicken dinner. The media doesn't know what the fuck is hitting them. |
|
The Obama supporters are not abandoning him in droves like they are wanting. What, oh what are they to make of it? It's so fucking simple, really. Look at what we put up with for the last 7 years. They actually think we trust them? Wake the fuck up guys! The so called mainstream media are becoming more irrelevant year by year. They'll fight to keep things the way they've been but it will all be for naught in the end. The times, they are changing.

This was a SLAM FUCKING DUNK Democratic year.
We better NOT be going down ... swinging or otherwise.
And who am I pissed off at?
The people who will have shown that, once again, Democrats have no ability to pick winners.
Don't take that as a slam on Obama OR Clinton.
I never favored either one and will be yelling "I Told You So" from the highest mountain.

I was for Edwards first.
But now I see that Obama is the one with the vision and the ability to build bridges.
This Primary is as bad as its gonna get.
We will not take it as bad in the GE as we have from "our own" here in the Primaries.
