If I had any advice to give teachers and aspiring teachers, it would be this: Each child is an individual with individual strengths and weaknesses. The best thing you can do is look at a child as an individual. Culture does indeed influence all of us, but children are individuals before they're some cultural unit. If we assume that black children learn differently than white children or Asian-American children or any other ethnic group, we're doing them a huge disservice. Yes, yes, I know there are acadmemic books on how black children learn differently. There are others that dispute it. But before anything else, a child is an individual.
