Ok, now you pissed me OFF... STOP THE HAND WRINGING!
Edited on Mon Apr-28-08 02:05 PM by crankychatter
This is the deal.

War Profiteers own the media and have made it their business to disinform the American people. They brought you Iraq, the Patriot Act, deregulation and torture. They are targetting Iran and Clinton is "on board." They want Clinton to be the nominee. Get it?

Obama is WINNING despite the SWIFT BOATING. The MSM has joined in with the Swiftboating in a BIG WAY.

Even Republicans have become anti-war, with 70% of the people "getting it," that the MEDIA LIED TO THEM.

Now if THEY get it... why don't these "Democrats" on DU, "get it?"

Half the eligible populace do NOT EVEN VOTE, not so much from apathy, as the passionate conviction that their votes are useless. They are justifiably cynical. They believe that they can purchase more influence in their government with a million bucks than a lifetime of voting. They'd rather win 25 grand playing Bingo than vote.

The DNC and Obama campaign are initiating a 50 State VOTER REGISTRATION drive. Why don't YOU sign up and become PART OF THE SOLUTION instead of PART OF THE PROBLEM?

They need hope and Senator Obama can deliver that hope. He is the antidote.

Senator Obama can sweep this nation with the largest landslide in US History.

You expected the enemy to just roll over and allow this? Come on... come on.

STOP THE HAND WRINGING AND FIGHT.

feather merchants.... BAH!

Sheesh, what's wrong with people? When the corporate-owned media AREN'T throwing everything they have at Obama; when every critical comment that falls out of McWar's mouth isn't aimed squarely at Obama, then there can be a wringing of hands, K? Cos that's when you know they're no longer freakin terrified he's about to be the nominee. When he's fallen to irrelevance, cos they don't give a rat's ass what he's doing, who he knows etc., THEN you can start worryin'. Capiche?

113. I just went to John Edwards web page and very politely asked
him to please endorse Obama as Obama most mirrors his positions. If he endorses Clinton all his speeches will become just so much rhetoric as Clinton is no more than a Vichy dem IMO. His wife is now trying to convince him to endorse Clinton. I signed the missile "a faithful supporter of your message"....So please add your voice on his web sight. 75. Im so pissed at CNN, did they even listen to Rev. Wright... How is any of this 1. Obama's
responsibility and 2. Are they all dumb? Our most precious right is freedom of speech and then to question those who govern. These 2 things are what has happened here, a man who happens to be a pastor of a Presidential contender made statements that made him a better American than most NeoCons... and some DLC dems (yes you Sen. LIEberman)

Now, Obama Keeps getting supers and will win NC and hopefully IND. But Im sure the bigots can't handle the all of this talk of the black church???

I tell you though all this preachy stuff bothers me as an atheist leaning agnostic I was hoping our government would be getting back to a more secular state after the disaster of the last 8 years!

GO Bama

108. CNN is bizarre
I hate the use of ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weasel_words ) weasel words and Wolf Blitzer is the king of that type of talk, drives me bonkers. All of them do it, but Blitzer tries to be so fair that it comes across as bs. Faux News built their empire on it.

5. I agree with you 100%. We are witnessing a full-on attempt by the status quo to stop Obama.
And betting their efforts will squash his supporters; put a damper on our ability to organize and GOTV. I for one, will not allow that to happen. We can't let them beat us and we won't.

I haven't posted much today; been reading a lot of the Wright posts though and all I can do is shake my head at the level of hysteria.

People need to to wake the fuck up and realize our futures are at stake - ALL of us - black, white and everything in between.

14. I call them "The Spinners"
My post from another thread....

Everyone has the right to defend their name and he waited a long time to do it.

He did it with kindness, not meanness.

He was more than gracious when interviewed by Bill Moyers. Should he have waited until White America gave him permission to speak! He is not in jail and he does not have to ask permission from a judge to speak!

Should he have gotten Barack Obama's approval to speak? No!

Some "Democrats" forget that he was being honored by the NAACP.

That is a very high honor and he certainly had the right to speak while accepting that award.
The NAACP honors people of all races and religions.

That is the essence of CIVIL RIGHTS.

The last time I checked, that is what the Democratic Party stands for.

That is what the Constitution should stand for...

As an African American who has attended the NAACP Dinners in Detroit for many years, I am thrilled that he was honored, on many levels.

The NAACP does not make decisions based on what White America believes they should do. Thurgood Marshall fought for the rights of the NAACP and MLK died for the right for ALL people to be treated fairly, even garbage workers.

Rev. Wright didn't ask CNN to bring their cameras into the dinner. CNN made that choice.

For once, CNN "allowed" us to hear his full speech.

Now we have the spin begin. Others can let the MSM control their brain but I won't give them that power over my brain.

SPINNERS give it a go because the NAACP does not need the approval of WHITE people or the majority of BLACK people. It was the vote of the BOARD MEMBERS of the NAACP and that is their privilege.

I salute the Board of the NAACP for honoring him before 11,000 people, of all races and religions!

God bless you NAACP and I am sending you a donation of $500 today.

I have spoken to my mother, 89 years old, about some of the statements that I just read here at DU and she directed my steps," Get out my checkbook, send the NAACP $1000 this morning!"

goclark ~ proud to be an American,an African American, a member of the NAACP and a Democrat that believes that we are "one nation under God."

Edited on Mon Apr-28-08 01:44 PM by Bensthename
He is beating McCain over nationally. He hangs on to a 5 - 10 point national lead nationally over Hillary. And he continues to rise in PA and IN polls.. MSM can kiss it..

People are still "bitter" over what happened to Kerry last election and isnt about to let the same thing happen to Obama.

Divide and conquer works through creating polarization and an us-versus-them attitude, and by instilling a sense of helpless victimization. The power lies with the people, not the corporate media and its paid propagandadists. Let's prove them wrong this time!

26. Yet you don't wring your hands when Pat Buchanan flashes his book
and all the other shills.

I stood in line for 3 hours with my mom in her wheel chair to have Bill Clinton sign her copy of his book.

Remember that Rev. Wright was speaking to the 11,000 people that came to see him receive his AWARD from the NAACP. They will all buy his book.

He didn't beg CNN to come and show it three times or more.

SPINNERS drive me crazy, especially when they are "Democrats."

... if there's even the smallest whiff of "controversy".

No white person would be caught dead supporting "the black guy". The primary difference between republicans and Democrats is that the republicans don't even bother lying to black folks about how much they respect them. At least Democrats take the time.

...went for Obama 80%-17% over Hillary, his largest margin to date. Democratic voter turnout more than doubled the previous state record. If this level of support from a heavily white electorate constitutes "lying" to a black man, then Hillary must have certainly had a full dose of the awful truth (= Get lost!).

20. My Call - You are so right on - HRC talked about Iran connection many times & Bilderberg connection
Someone started a link on DU that has replies to a comment about HRC campaign being so broke.....

Here is the link to that post:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=5713356&mesg_id=5713356

To which I stated that so broke....the Bilderberg's are having a Help Hillary Fund Raiser for her & Bill

Ah yes, the Bilderberg's - the most elite of the elite - Bill & Hillary both belong to this group!

Check this report out from 2007 which has references to Iran and a video on the site to back this up on Hillary & Bilderberg's One World Theorists Group connection here on a Ron Paul site:

http://www.oldthinkernews.com/Articles/oldthinker%20news/hillary_clinton.htm

Hillary Clinton: A Bilderberg Presidency

European elite back Democratic frontrunner

By Daniel Taylor

(note Hillary says she didn't go to the Bilderberg's 2006 meeting but there are witnesses that say she did)

While President Bush's approval rating falls to record lows, the torch is being prepared to pass on to Hillary Clinton, with full endorsement from the global elite. With support from European nobility, Clinton has been selected as the candidate of choice for the continuation of globalist policies. Bill Clinton, being a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Trilateral Commission, as well as the secretive Bilderberg group, was the creme de la creme establishment candidate. His wife, Hillary, who likely attended the 2006 Bilderberg conference in Ottawa Canada, now promises to follow in his path.

(snip)

Writing in the Council on Foreign Relations publication Foreign Affairs, Hillary Clinton outlines her agenda if elected president. Iran is in Clinton's sights, along with regional government, and likely support of the North American Union - and possibly a Pan-American union - with a "policy of vigorous engagement" with Latin America.

Regarding Iran, Clinton echoes the rhetoric coming from President Bush and the Neo-cons,

"Iran must conform to its nonproliferation obligations and must not be permitted to build or acquire nuclear weapons. If Iran does not comply with its own commitments and the will of the international community, all options must remain on the table."

Clinton's "vigorous engagement" stance toward Latin America would make North American integration proponent Robert Pastor and the CFR proud. Regional government, as well as regional currencies have been a long term goal of Bilderberg globalists and the Council on Foreign Relations. Clinton, if elected president would pursue further integration of Africa into the African Union.

"We should target these countries for aid and other forms of support and work with them to strengthen regional institutions such as the African Union. The AU seeks to emulate the European Union by requiring and supporting democracy among its members..."

Hillary Clinton congratulated Walter Cronkite in 1999 for his global governance award, given to him by the World Federalist Association for his support for a system of world government. "For decades you've told us the way it is, and tonight we honor you for fighting for the way it could be," said Clinton.

...........

Your are so right on that we have to take this seriously! Who are the elitist????

He couldn't even remain objective... just like a GOP ready to swiftboat and jump on the divisive band wagon.

Does Clinton want war with Iran?

93. Well I'll try: chknltl's version of DU:101
Most of us come here for education. Someone famous, (perhaps T. Jefferson), said that American democracy REQUIRES an enlightened electorate. If you are so inclined, may I recommend Tom Hartmann's book "SCREWED, The Undeclared War Against The Middle Class" It is short, to the point and chock full of facts that don't get talked about much outside of progressive forums and blogs. It should answer most if not all your questions quite nicely.

I would encapsulate it by saying it deals with America's history and the dynamics capitalism, consumerism, militarism and both the Democrats and Republicans have had on our democracy. In short it is a great argument for We The People having the ultimate power over our own affairs to include regulating capitalism in such a way that it does not harshly impact our democracy.

Ultimately if left to it's own designs, capitalism unrestricted can destroy our Democracy. We have seen this before as it was the impetus for the Great Depression. We see it again today and this time the unregulated capitalism has taken controls over our mainstream media, our government, our major industries and etc. As the OP suggested and most here would agree: the profiteers have caused a great deal of damage to our nation and to the world and seek to continue doing so.

Yes, in a very real sense these things have been about profit: War with Iraq, the Patriot Act, deregulation-(ABSOLUTELY) and arguably even torture! Senator Clinton HAS sided with the profiteers by voting for bush being able to go to war in Iraq and Afghanistan. The profiteers want a crack at Iran and so far Senator Clinton appears to be going along with that as well. Talks about obliterating Iran is just fueling the fires to take us to yet ANOTHER fiasco war.

The profiteers in this case would be those who want Iran's oil, they got Iraq's oil already although they don't have it secured. The Military Industrial Complex, (a big supporter of WAR, Bush 1 and 2, Senator McCain and Senator Clinton) have shown tremendous profits from our fiasco wars and would only do even better should we foolishly invade Iran. Do We The People want war with Iran? HELL NO. Most want this war to end and end soon....the last thing the majority of the citizens of America want is to open up yet another can of worms in the Middle East.

So why doesn't the will of We The People hold sway? Isn't that what democracy is supposed to be about? The answer is because our government represents the profiteers, (out of control or unregulated capitalism), more-so than We The People. Capitalism is NOT a democracy, it is if anything a feudal system. It is all about the needs of the few, the profiteers and their unrelenting needs to make more and more profits. Democracy on the other hand is not capitalism. It is about the needs of the many, (the majority or middle class) outweighing the needs of the few or that one who would be king!

It is our belief that Senator Obama is the antitheses of what the profiteers who would control our government want. Will he represent We the People more-so than Sen.s Clinton or McCain? Well so far his votes have indicated this, so far his lack of being in the pockets of the lobbyists to the large degree that Sen.s Clinton and McCain are suggest this, and the very fact that the allies to the profiteers have come out so strongly against Obama throughout the profiteer controlled MSM suggests this as well!

..worshipers at the altar of "A Woman At Any Cost." They remain conveniently and/or blissfully ignorant to the countless ways that she trumpets neo-Con talking points, promotes the GOP candidate, and poisons the well of the Democratic Party's hopes of a sweep in November. They apologize for her willingness to bloody Obama, even in the face of her inevitable loss of the nomination, for the sake of a more expedient path to the White House, against a tired McCain, in 2008.

Hand-wringing? Not on their part. Just allegiance so blind they could be staring into the morning sun on a cloudless day and swear it was midnight.

I love chaos because it has kept the party alive with the only candidate that can win in the fall. I like the guy. He's just too green. And too liberal.

He needs to show some blood across the aisle to get something passed. Then he'll be good and electable. Not until then.

115. hmm, I was unaware that we are the party of chaos...
It appears to me that the neo-cons who have infiltrated our government have turned the Republican party into the party of chaos and seek to do the same with the Democratic Party. There is profit in chaos, (the chaos which happened to Iraq after the neo-cons pushed for the invasion is a GREAT example) and the neo-cons are out for profit more than out for the welfare of our democracy or the will of We The People.

As to the chaos within our party, I would not call the scrap between Sen.s Clinton and Obama chaos. Senator Clinton is doing what she can to win, she has that right. It is easily apparent that she is next in-line for the job to tackle Sen. McCain should Sen. Obama stumble. She throws kitchen stinks in his way hoping to get him to stumble but Sen. Obama so far has been doing just fine. He is coasting into the nomination at this point and I look forward to seeing how he handles Sen. McCain later this year.

He does indeed have an anti-war position and he has a few other positions worthy of note as well. He is a Constitutionalist for one. You have to believe in our Constitution first if you want to believe that America's democracy is to be saved from the corporatists. Senator Obama has promised us that his Attorney General will be looking into the crimes committed by the bush crime family and if there were indeed crimes committed there will be accountability for those crimes. I am SURE you feel that America is a land of laws and that NOBODY is above those laws.

He promises tax cuts for the Middle Class too, another noteworthy position. We The People are struggling and that is one way to get us started back on the road to economic recovery. When bush promised us 'tax cuts', he did the biggest cuts for the ultra wealthy...that only served to spiral our economy down to where it is today creating a Middle Class that is in terrible shape because we STILL ended up paying for the 'free lunches' of the ultra wealthy corporatists! That trickle down economics that Reagan sold us has come to roost, the rich got even richer but they were never obliged to trickle ANYTHING down to We The people, (the middle class and the majority of America) A President Obama is desirous of changing that. He understands that We The People are mostly made up of a middle class, we are a majority and in America democracy is all about the majority having control over their own affairs. Right now it is the minority, the corporatists who are calling the shots.

I'm betting that you are 100% behind democracy in America, I am betting that you are not fond of the notion that a feudal system, (the corporatists are a feudal system) seeks to usurp our democracy through their lobbyists! I am betting that given time and enlightenment, you will be voting for Senator Obama BECAUSE YOU LOVE AMERICA, not because he shows blood across the aisle.

90. If wishes were horses.
Look, delusions not withstanding, while it is possible, it is not likely that Obama is going to win in a landslide.

Optimism and enthusiasm are good and useful, but don't fool yourself.

If you think what Obama is experiencing now is tantamount to swiftboating then someone should slap the pacifier out of your mouth and treat you to a big heap of wake up and smell the f*cking coffee.

We ain't seen nothing yet.

This will be a squeaker.

And even with a democratic win the MSM plan is to tag the dems with the double dip recession. That is what the tax stimulus was all about - economic relief long enough to give McCaine a chance, or, failing that, a means to plausibly blame people's pain on Dems.

This contest will be hard fought, the next four years are likely to be a long slog with much risk to progress.

But at least there's a chance.

117. Dogwhistle terms Karl Rove would recognize.
So you don't bother to "make an argument" and then you use dog-whistle biblical references to call me a troll and not get called on it by a moderator.

If you keep up with the passive aggressive tactics you'll have lost what ever shred of standing to complain about slime ball politics, because you'll be right there in the same frame of mind, if not objectives.

My post still stands.

If you think it's bad now, just wait until a nominee is selected. The MSM will really lay into whoever the candidate is.

I'm not some Judas goat trying to lead people to some pernicious position - I'm trying to inoculate them against losing heart.

I won't lie to you, my favorite was Edwards, but I still don't want McCaine in office - so I offer some genuinely meant advice.

You beating the drum and talking about a landslide are not doing any good, and actually likely to do harm.

A Landslide?

How about we steal a line from Teddy Roosevelt and then the bible:

Walk softly and carry a big stick. (electoral rather than military in this case)

and

You'll know them by the fruits of their labors.

Look, the election is not there to fix some racial divide, nor is owed as restitution for past inequity. It's to fill the top executive position of our government. I want the most competent honest person for the job that we can feasibly get. Race be damned.

Maybe Obama is that guy - but I'm not sure how we'll ever know because any time I make an observation or venture a critique I get called a racist. I'm sick of it.

So you can take your dog-whistle bible quotes, your delusions, and your sense of persecution and....

Well, be creative - I'm sure you can figure out where I was going with that sentence.

p.s.; Love the use of the word "condescending". Why not just slap that label on anyone you don't like - just like Republicans do with the label "elitist". More dog-whistle bullcrap. You're more like your "enemies" than you like to admit it seems.

"Shortly before he rose to deliver his rambling, angry, sarcastic remarks at the National Press Club Monday, Wright sat next to, and chatted with, Barbara Reynolds," The New York Daily News' Errol Lewis begins Tuesday.

"A former editorial board member at USA Today, she runs something called Reynolds News Services and teaches ministry at the Howard University School of Divinity," he adds. "It also turns out that Reynolds - introduced Monday as a member of the National Press Club "who organized" the event - is an enthusiastic Hillary Clinton supporter.

On a blog linked to her Web site- www.reynoldsnews.com- Reynolds said in a February post: "My vote for Hillary in the Maryland primary was my way of saying thank you" to Clinton and her husband for the successes of Bill Clinton's presidency.

The same post criticized Obama's "Audacity of Hope" theme: "Hope by definition is not based on facts," wrote Reynolds. It is an emotional expectation. Things hoped for may or may not come. But help based on experience trumps hope every time."

In another blog entry, Reynolds gives an ever-sharper critique of Obama: "It is a sad testimony that to protect his credentials as a unifier above the fray, the senator is fueling the media characterization that Rev. Dr. Wright is some retiring old uncle in the church basement."

I don't know if Reynolds' eagerness to help Wright stage a disastrous news conference with the national media was a way of trying to help Clinton - my queries to Reynolds by phone and e-mail weren't returned yesterday - but it's safe to say she didn't see any conflict between promoting Wright and supporting Clinton."

107. BRAVO
mon brave! And, yes, Hillary is on board. While she undoubtedly wants to be president in (literally) the worst way, her overriding goal -- and that of her backers -- is for her to be the Democratic nominee so the deck will be stacked with two Republican candidates.

110. You forgot to mention that corporate media brought us 8 years of
Hr. Boooosh to hand over all the tax money working people pay into the system and hand it over the less than 3% of the population who least need it.

116. thanks for adding some.... it was just a rant on the heels of yesterday's fret session
I was surprised at the response

I just want to encourage folks to remember what's at stake... to understand the media is losing power over America... it's driving them crazy

we keep going UP despite this "kitchen sink" strategy

identify the work we CAN do and continue.... BEING the media

take heart... that's all

"it don't say genius anywhere on my resume'"
