while she gets support from the OTHER chamber.

23. He's getting one in Guam, also.. soon.
Edited on Mon Apr-28-08 02:32 PM by FLDem5
Clinton already has one:

http://www.guampdn.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080429/NEWS01/804290307/1002

At least one of Guam's five unpledged "superdelegates" to the Democratic National Convention in August has decided to use her vote to nominate presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton.

<snip>
But candidate Sen. Barack Obama could be getting one of the island's other superdelegate votes, even though the national media has reported that vote also going to Clinton.

Guam Democratic Party Chairman Tony Charfauros yesterday said he is about to appoint either Sen. Benjamin Cruz or attorney Mike Phillips to a vacant superdelegate position -- the party's "committee man" position. Cruz and Philips are both Obama supporters.

*** please note when you click over - how friggin' awesome the Obama campaign is. It is a Guam newspaper, and there is a click-through add from the Obama campaign that shows you where to vote. They kick butt. ***

109. One "funny" thing about Guam
..is that they have more superdelegates than pledged delegates.

5 Superdelegates and 8*½ pledged delegates.

Remember; Caucuses are Bad! One man caucases (=SDs) are absolutely perfect and should do whatever they feel like.

...and put an end to this nonsense. A couple of weeks I argued that maybe a long drawn out process could be good for us, but it's not and I was obviously short-sighted. Pick a candidate, and announce now! We're handing this to McCain.

110. You are right. Bingaman was one of the 23 Senators to vote against the IWR.
Go Senator Bingaman!!! Go Obama!!!!

Disclaimer: When I was employed by the Engery Committee Bingaman was one of my bosses. The other was Domenici from New Mexico (Rethuglican). I always felt comforted by the fact that at least one of the Senators I worked for had voted against the IWR.

Useless Factoid: The only time in history that the Chair and the Ranking Member of a committee were from the same state.

Good news: Domenici has announced his retirement and will not run in November. Probably very concerned that the US attorney scandal and his attempt to put political pressure on David Iglesias would be used against him in the campaign if he chose to run.

Peace,

freefall

That's what I thought when Bingaman voted against the Iraqi War Resolution. Considering how much NM depends on defense/military spending, his vote won me forever.

72. You know, every time Hillary gets an endorsement...
I see a good many Obama supporters kicking in a congratulations or well wishes or something to that effect. On this thread and similar others where Obama picks up an endorsement... crickets. Or just downright meanness (see above).

This endorsement is fantastic news! Let them trickle on over.

73. Thank you, Senator Jeff Bingaman!
Cool what Obama said about Bingaman..

"Senator Obama said, “I’m grateful today to have Senator Bingaman’s support. Senator Bingaman has been speaking out in the United States Senate on some of the most pressing issues of our time – saving our environment, fighting global warming, and making America energy independent. Senator Bingaman has been an important advocate in the energy debate, and has served the people of New Mexico for decades, giving voice to the issues that matter to families across the state. We are proud to have his support as we fight to bring about real change for families in New Mexico and across the country.”

Senator Jeff Bingaman is the Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. He has served in the United State Senate since 1982, and previously served as New Mexico Attorney General."

76. Breakdown List of Senate Support
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/04/28/with_bingaman_endorsement_obam.html

With Bingaman Endorsement, Obama Takes Senate Support Lead
By Jonathan Weisman
Sen. Barack Obama officially pulled ahead today in the scramble for endorsements from colleagues in the U.S. Senate, thanks to Sen. Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico.

Never one of the Senate's most high-profile members, Bingaman now has a claim to political fame: He put Obama over the top after his long slog to catch Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who had a head start in winning the support of her peers. Obama now has 14 endorsements to Clinton's 13.

Obama will also get the vote of Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.), who has not officially endorsed him but said he will support Obama at the convention in deference to his state's voters. Clinton has a similar pledge from Sen. Barbara Boxer of California.

"Our nation faces a daunting number of critical challenges: reasserting America's leadership in the world, meeting our needs for energy independence, addressing global warming, making healthcare accessible and affordable, positioning our economy to effectively compete globally, and extricating ourselves from the war in Iraq, to name a few," Bingaman wrote in his endorsement announcement. "To make progress, we must rise above the partisanship and the issues that divide us to find common ground. We must move the country in a dramatically new direction."

Of course, Clinton can still flip the endorsement balance back in her favor: Not counting Clinton, Obama, and the Senate's two Democratic-leaning independents, 18 Democratic senators still have yet to endorse.

A full list of endorsements by senators follows the jump:

Obama:

Sen. Bob Casey (Pa.)
Sen. Kent Conrad (N.D.)
Sen. Chris Dodd (Conn.)
Sen. Byron Dorgan (N.D.)
Sen. Dick Durbin (Ill.)
Sen. Tim Johnson (S.D.)
Sen. Edward Kennedy (Mass.)
Sen. John Kerry (Mass.)
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (Minn.)
Sen. Patrick Leahy (Vt.)
Sen. Claire McCaskill (Mo.)
Sen. Ben Nelson (Neb.)
Sen. Jay Rockefeller (W.Va.)
Sen. Jeff Bingaman (N.M.)

Clinton:

Sen. Evan Bayh (Ind.)
Sen. Maria Cantwell (Wash.)
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.)
Sen. Daniel Inouye (Hawaii)
Sen. Blanche Lincoln (Ark.)
Sen. Bob Menendez (N.J.)
Sen. Barbara Mikulski (Md.)
Sen. Patty Murray (Wash.)
Sen. Bill Nelson (Fla.)
Sen. Mark Pryor (Ark.)
Sen. Charles Schumer (N.Y.)
Sen. Debbie Stabenow (Mich.)
Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (R.I.)

Two senators, Russ Feingold of Wisconsin, and Barbara Boxer of California, have said they will vote at the convention for the candidates chosen by their states, Obama for Feingold, Clinton for Boxer.

88. He chairs the Energy Committee
But says he is not the chairman Reid referred to the other day.

It’s an elite club inside the elite club that is the U.S. Senate — the chairman’s club. Only 19 senators — all in the majority party — can be chairmen of the 20 committees that direct legislation. They wield considerable influence in the law-making process and their word can go a long way.

They also are falling to Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton by a wide margin, currently 8-2. Democratic Energy Committee Chairman Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico is the latest to announce his backing for the Illinois senator in the Democratic presidential primary race.

-snip

Reid said Monday that in a recent chairman’s meeting, “five or six hands … went up” when he asked if anyone was still making up his mind about who to endorse. Reid said one member of the elite gathering told fellow attendees that his decision will be known very soon.

Bingaman said he was not the chairman to whom Reid was referring, so that leaves Sens. Max Baucus of Montana, head of the Finance Committee; Joe Biden of Delaware, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee; Tom Harkin Iowa, leader of the Agriculture Committee, Carl Levin of Michigan, who heads Armed Services; Herb Kohl of Wisconsin, chairman of the Aging panel; Daniel Akaka of Hawaii, who leads the Veterans Affairs panel.

-snip

Obama now has the following chairmen in his camp:
Bingaman (Energy)
North Dakota Sen. Kent Conrad (Budget)
Connecticut Sen. Christopher Dodd (Banking)
North Dakota Sen. Byron Dorgan (Indian Affairs)
Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy (Health, Education, Labor and Pensions)
Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry (Small Business)
Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy (Judiciary)
West Virginia Sen. Jay Rockefeller (Intelligence)

Clinton has two chairmen in her corner:
Hawaii Sen. Daniel Inouye (Commerce)
California Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Rules)
