26. The Dem candidate for the Illinois senate seat |
|
He looks to be an easy winner, as the guy running against him just dropped out of the race because of a sex scandal. Well, not really a scandal--just not your normal missionary-style leanings.
Geez, I'm really uncomfortable with sex scandals affecting elections--not that the Dems had anything to do with exposing this. If it's consenting adults, then mind your own business, IMO. The Repub was a reactionary twerp, and I'd have preferred he be defeated for that reason rather than the prudishness of the Repub elite.

He's the one name I've got in my head right now. Although, with the right-wingers trying to paint Gore as a nut, I wonder if that may backfire politically?

11. The keynoter is usually an up-and-comer with speaking ability. |
|
Somebody like Ford of Tennessee. Kennedy and Clinton will have spotlighted orations in prime time, but the keynote is usually an office holder that has a promising future that the party wants to promote. Like Bill Clinton in 1988. Ann Richards in 1992.

But for his age, he would have been a top VP candidate. Better than Edwards, in many ways.

But he'd be fine by me. I hope we're ready to have women and minorities in the White House sooner rather than later.

16. Everybody that's not seen as too moderate |
|
will be seen as too radical by someone. That's just the way it is. Ford has a real chance to be the future of the Democratic party and then some. I hope he doesn't screw it up. As for women and minorities, for some pretty good political and demographic reasons, it's likely that the first female and/or minority President will be a Republican.

In the meantime, I would give the keynote to another moderate, young comer.

21. I have been told Obama is the keynote speaker. |
|
I think it may well be the truth, I've heard it from a couple different sources since last weekend. Both of them are in a position that would give them access to inside info...
I have my fingers crossed that it is true--Barack Obama is an AMAZING speaker. I firmly think that after more Dems hear him speak he's gonna be one of the most popular Dems in the country--he's THAT good!

His voting record is pretty progressive. I like him a lot. He's gonna win and we will take the Senate! :) http://www.obamaforillinois.com
