Hillary Supporters who saw his NAACP speech and concluded he is a good man. Check in. |
|
I am sure I'm not the only one who was totally impressed by his speech.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who saw a message of inclusion not exclusion, tolerance not racism.
I'm, sure some of HRC supporters saw the same thing. If you're one of them those who changed their minds, please let me know.

5. I was not appalled nor impressed by his speech. I was concerned |
|
at the idea that African Americans think differently than Americans of other races. I did not think very highly of that concept.
Otherwise, he was as I thought he was.

9. Well. I did not say that. What I said was that I was troubled by that part of it |
|
leads to inherent "differences" which leads to racism.
I never said that was "all I saw out of that speech." But, go ahead. Look for reasons to hate me if that makes you feel better.

13. Hate you?! I don't hate you.. Why would I hate you!! What do I know of you as a person other than |
|
"Evergreen Emerald", a nickname on DU? It doesn't give me the right to hate you.
Same thing goes for Wright. What do you know of him other than snippets to hate him, or to conclude that he is a racist, or whatever negative Ideas you have about him?!!

18. That is not what he said |
|
He said that people of African descent that have been born and raised in America by American parents learn the same as those in Africa.
That does not sound like socialization.

19. Does it bother you that southern Americans think differently than |
|
other Americans? That New England fishing communities would find Taos unbelievably exotic, and visa versa? Are you silly enough to claim they are NOT different?
This is not a McDonalds country, no matter how much the corporations want to make it so. There are distinctly different cultures within the US - not to mention distinctions within those cultures.
Of COURSE black america is different than white america. Even today, there are black americans who knew people in their own lifetimes who were born in slavery.
Know what? Latino america is different than white america, too. And Mexican america is different than Cuban america.
Different cultures think differently. Only an idiot would be surprised to learn that.

10. Impressive. What's that, two? |

Wright did not do Obama any favors with his speeches. In fact, I'm not sure he did anyone anywhere any favors except maybe himself in attracting a great deal of attention.
He is an incredibly effective speaker. But the crackpot theories he is carrying about brain development hail back to the kind of tripe that came out of The Bell Curve. Don't you see the destructive path that leads to? If people of different races have different brains, it becomes a massive excuse for treating people differently. And who do you think wins that one? Certainly not black people. What is the impact for affirmative action if an employer can discriminate against black applicants because they have "African brains" and are therefore less competent in logic? These are arguments that have been used by the most bigoted elements of America. I'm sure if you google "blacks have different brains" you will come up with a number of references to Stormfront and the most odious racist scum on the planet. And here's Wright actually legitimizing their contention by saying there is a genetic basis for racial differences in intellectual performance. Sorry but I'm not buying it.
On the other hand, it isn't Obama saying these ridiculous things. He should be forcefully condemning them, and maybe we are going to see that now.

11. I watched Rev. on TV every Sunday...long before I heard about Obama. |
|
Wright is a decent, good, intelligent, and insightful person. He can go over the top at times. But anyone who knows him knew that he was not going to allow the media to swiftboat him. Most all of his sermons are firey and critical of the US government, especially the Bush administration.

However, I do hope he keeps his face on TV and in the news over the next week before the primaries in Indiana and NC.

But he scares some of the white people with his preaching style...which is unfortunate.
