Simply keep pounding the "100 year: meme over and over and over.....
I've noticed how bug eyed the repukes are getting with this meme---

WHY!!! cause it scares the shit out of them.

Keep using it---- hell---- even when the meme is about the economy---throw the 100 year thingy in at the end.

4. I'm not certain Obama would like that
After all, his main military adviser, Merril McPeak, said the same thing.

Oregon Live: Is Iraq the last country we confront in the Middle East?

McPeak: Who wants to volunteer to get cross-ways with us? We'll be there a century, hopefully. If it works right.

He also makes repeated references to American presences in Germany, Japan, and South Korea as models of the engagement he envisions.

Obama? Obama? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

9. The difference:
McCain said 100 years.
Obama has not.

McPeak has his own opinion.

10. Then Why.....
does Obama have McPeak as one of his top military advisers if their views on this issue are so different?

It sure seems like Obama has a tough time picking advisers who have similar beliefs as he does on issues....Wright, Ayers, Resko, McPeak. Who else is next?

Similarity of belief has nothing to do with it.

13. Ahhhh......
So Obama agrees, then, that we'll be in Iraq for the next hundred years.

Thanks for clearing that up! I kind of suspected Obama wasn't really telling the truth about pulling the troops out.

5. Make it into a traveling song
"100 years of war in Iraq
100 years of war,
If 1,000 soldiers fail to come back
99 years of war in Iraq

"99 years of war in Iraq
99 years of war..."

...repeat as necessary.

7. It's true that it is being used in a misleading way.
McCain clearly said that he would want a long-term presence in Iraq, which, while abhorrent to those of us who think we should never have fucking been there in the first place, is not the same thing as advocating a war that none of us will live to see the end of.

11. Personally I think the "bomb Iran" song is far more damaging
because I can actually see where he's coming from on the 100 years comment, though I disagree with him profoundly.

It's still a good meme, and I think it's highly useful, but "bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran" is simply unforgivable.

20. McCain is a goner
Edited on Thu May-01-08 11:24 AM by TragedyandHope
I truly think the Rethugs were certain of a loss in November, so the plan was put up McCain (who 30%+ of Rethugs hate) to lose against the Democrat. Now with all the trouble on our side and the success of Operation Chaos, they're beginning to get their hopes up, even though they didn't really want McCain in the first place. (Look at Paul and Huckabee's numbers in PA.)

McCain is playing along as the good little puppet, immediately dropping almost every one of his long-held positions in an attempt to play the role of a perfect Bush clone. This is exactly what the country doesn't want.

Once we get into the General Election, McCain doesn't have a chance. 80% of Americans think the country has gone in the wrong direction over the past 8 years. The Rethugs are stuck with a candidate they hate, so the GOP will become the divided party during the general. It will be very easy to play them against themselves and peel off a good percentage of their supporters.

The appeal of our Party's positions to Independents combined with the record turnout and enthusiasm within our own party this year will mean a strong win in November. Not just the White House, but plenty of Congressional seats as well.
