Bush ad assails Kerry for missed Senate votes
Bush ad assails Kerry for missed Senate votes

By LIZ SIDOTI, Associated Press

Last Updated: July 8, 2004, 03:05:00 PM PDT

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - President Bush questions Democrat John Kerry's priorities in a new ad that mentions Laci Peterson, the pregnant Californian killed in 2002, as it attempts to paint the Massachusetts senator as out of touch with most Americans.

The 30-second commercial, which starts airing Friday, is part of Bush's first major advertising effort in nearly three weeks. The commercial criticizes Kerry for missing "over two thirds of all votes" in the Senate while campaigning, and asks: "Kerry has his priorities. Are they yours?"

Kerry's campaign countered on Thursday that that the Democrat's priority has been serving the public for more than 30 years - as a naval officer in Vietnam, a county prosecutor, a lieutenant governor and a senator. And, the campaign questioned how Bush could argue about absenteeism when the president has spent at least 233 days at his Texas ranch since his inauguration in January 2001.

Bush's $8 million, two-week advertising push - in local media markets in 19 states, on national cable networks and radio, and in newspapers - includes the re-election campaign's first foray onto North Carolina's airwaves to defend traditionally GOP turf from ads by Kerry.

1. Ha! Ha! Ha! I knew this was going to happen
I'm surprised the Bush-Cheney gang took so long to bring this up.

Have fun rebuking this Kerry fanatics.

6. I'm voting for Kerry but not supporting him
For this Prez election year, I agree with John Kenneth Galbraith, "Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists in choosing between the disastrous (Bush) and the unpalatable (Kerry)."

8. Why, that's just what Kerry said in response:
Kerry's campaign countered on Thursday that that the Democrat's priority has been serving the public for more than 30 years as a naval officer in Vietnam, a county prosecutor, a lieutenant governor and a senator. And, the campaign questioned how Bush could argue about absenteeism when the president has spent at least 233 days at his Texas ranch since his inauguration in January 2001....

15. Bush Did Not Resign As Governor When Running in 2000
This is a red herring. It will fall flat like the McCain as first choice for VP.

They got nothing people, nothing.

9. Another 8 million burned.
Could have stacked them on the table, poured lighter fluid, lit 'em on fire, and same them the time and effort.

Kerry nuetralizers that thrust with a simple 2 sentence counter.

Keep those ads coming Karl!

12. My only complaint is that I'd like to see Kerry take the offensive.
Democrats should not constantly be on the defensive.

13. John and John are on the offensive
But their offensive can still afford to be positive (and credibly so). BushCo cannot. No need to be just like BushCo, when you still have ammo that is positive.

18. Missed votes...
How about if the press focused on all of those Republican votes that give a big middle finger to working class America?
