My mother basically called me a sellout [again] +Using MLK As a Speed Bump to Save Obama
Using MLK As a Speed Bump to Save Obama

I've watched with somber delight (possible?) as Jeremiah Wright has tap danced across the airwaves in recent days to polish up his "good name". I've laughed to myself because I can only imagine the quandary the Obama supporters now find themselves in. When the now infamous Wright snippets hit the airwaves, Obama's supporters were coming out in full-force in defense of Wright--claiming that he'd had a horrible life having lived through segregation and such and that it wasn't fair to show the thunderous sound bites of him claiming that America created the AIDS virus and calling the country the U.S. of KKK-A. Then, their fearless leader Obama gave that ridiculously over-hyped speech about race, in an attempt to distance himself from Wright and it was written--Wright was bad for Obama.

So, now that he is traipsing all over the place, virtually re-enacting those sound bites in real-time for all the world to see, what will the Obamazoids do now? Why, trample on MLK, Jr.--of course!

I've heard repeatedly in the past several days that if MLK had not been assassinated, he was set to give a speech entitled, "Why America is Going to Hell". I've heard Michael Eric Dyson say it. I've heard radio host Joe Madison say it and if I'm not mistaken, I've heard the fat stooge, Roland Martin, say it as well--and the list goes on and on. Each of them should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. Absolutely ashamed. Why use King's lifeless body to help shore up support for Obama? Who didn't even think it prudent to attend the MLK assassination commemoration ceremonies a few weeks ago. Why use King to validate Rev. Wright's sermons? King would have given his speech or sermon or whatever this alleged piece would have been, in the 1960's. Rev. Wright is going on these crazy rants in 2008. The difference should need no explanation!

I'm a Black woman originally from the Deep South, and while at 31 I can't claim to have lived through the worst of what my people have experienced at the hands of bigots in this country--I have seen my share of white men marching through the streets in bed sheets wearing white hoods. I quit a part-time job I was working in 2000, when I was so broke it was pitiful, to march with tens of thousands to try to convince the state of South Carolina to take the Confederate flag from the top of the state house dome. But, Jeremiah Wright is either stuck in a time warp or he has been preying on the poverty-stricken desperation of Black folks in his congregation by inciting them to anger repeatedly during his "sermons". As in, instead of getting them to empty those wallets and purses by giving them a good-old time-tested prosperity, "name it and claim it" sermon, he has been hitting them in the next best jackpot soft spot--that old "down with whitey" nerve. That one has a tendency to keep the collection plates nice and heavy on Sunday morning. Meanwhile, he is having a nice plush pad built right next door to "whitey" even as I type this.

Race relations still need a lot of work in this country. They do, but they are not in the condition they were in during the 1960's. Can we at least be honest about that??? I mean, good God! I've seen several "black leaders" on television ranting and raving like we still have "whites only" water fountains! This, as they personally live in homes that many poor white folks could never dream of owning. I wish they would stop trying to protect Obama at any cost!

I've said here before and the information is out there--this country is more conservative than it is liberal. Our selection of candidate for the Democratic party has to be chosen with strategy and a true desire and intention to win in mind. In the past 40 or so years, the Republicans have been kicking our asses, no pun intended, left and right. They have come up with a good formula and it's been working for them--and yet, we Democrats keeping making the same foolish mistakes time and time again.

Hillary Clinton is one of the most solid, formidable candidates the Democratic Party has seen since...her HUSBAND (dare I say even better than him) and yet, the Party leaders seem set on derailing her candidacy. I've heard conservative talk radio hosts laughing it up, calling John McCain, "the luckiest man alive" if Obama is the nominee because the Republicans would roast him like new potatoes with all of the gaffes he's made and the information that's come out about him just up to this point. You just have to know that Fox News is holding it's own Ace of Spades for just such a roasting in the way of video footage of the Obamas sitting up in that church, clapping and nodding affirmatively to Wright giving one of his fiery sermons. Aren't you at least being honest with yourself about that? I certainly hope so because trust me, it's out there.

I'll be honest, I'm at a loss. My mother basically called me a sellout on Friday and I was really hurt for a minute, but now even just writing that makes me laugh at just how crazy that is. I know she is drunken with the heady wines of hope and change and possibility, so I've already gotten over it. I mean, what else am I going to do? Let Obama also ruin my relationships with my family and friends? Hell no. So, I continue to treat the primary season as if it doesn't even exist with anyone in my family or amongst my friends who is an Obama supporter lest a heated, near physical argument should occur. Let's just hope that come November 5th, the new elephant in the room isn't John McCain... --SUGAR

44. the Bin Ladens are a huge family, you know that right?
you know that Osama's father, for instance, had 55 children? 55. show me one lick of evidence, frankly, that links Osama bin Laden to Bush through BCCI. one. Yes, he had accounts at BCCI, but then, so did a lot of people (I, myself, have an account at Citi, am I linked to the subprime crisis there?) it's a bit ridiculous this jeremiad you seem to have.

53. Yeah right - not everyone is a terrorist or PROFITS off of terrorism like both Bin Laden and Bushes.
And Usama's brother Salem was caught up in BCCI investigation as it related to HARKEN - James Bath arranged for Salem Bin Laden to acquire shares in Harken to line GWBush's bank accounts when Harken was set to go under.

And BCCI isn't cut and dry like you want people to believe. You pretend that there weren't any outstanding matters left in that report by Jan 1993, but the report clearly STATES that there are outstanding matters that required further scrutiny and access to documents.

If Bill handled those appropriately and in a manner RESPECTFUL of this nation's need for ACCURATE historic documentation, then he would have detailed his efforts in his book, wouldn't he?

Funny - not ONE MENTION of BCCI in his entire book. Yet you can be sure AQ Khan will be trotted out as the reason the US will HAVE to go to war with Iran.

You likely know this, but seem to NEED to pipe up with your all is well spin to divert the truth from watchful Democrats.

24. Do you really think that what Wright says is what Obama thinks?
As much as some may "delight" that Wright is all over the MSM with coverage that blows away any coverage of the Pope's visit, it really gets down to this.

Are Reverend Wright's message and statements directly and completely what Barack Obama agrees with? If Reverend Wright says that the government infiltrated the black community with AIDS that Obama (by merely knowing him) agrees with him?

If Heidi Fleiss, the infamous madame who ran a prostitution ring in several parts of the country, endorses Hillary Clinton, does that mean that Hillary Clinton agrees with her lifestyle?

Many say that Obama has known Wright for many years as a spiritual advisor (or as a pastor at his church) and he was married by him and his children were baptized by him. Having been to weddings and baptisms, political talk is not part of the celebration at the event, and if it was, it would be wholly inappropriate.

It is absolutely intellectually dishonest to presume that what Wright says is what Obama thinks by default. That's the crux of this "issue".

I always wonder why fans of Hillary Clinton have to bring up this claptrap to somehow discourage people from supporting Obama and hence, support her. Isn't her candidacy strong enough for people to look at her record without having to prepose that her opponent's FORMER pastor should be an issue, much like it was apparently an issue what Barack Obama wrote in a paper when he was in kindergarten?

Sure, the Repigs will want to keep bringing up Wright in the fall but thankfully I think there is already evidence of Wright Fatigue.

Hopefully people aren't such suckers for the lazy Royal Beltway Punditry's parlor games.

31. Well first....
I don't see how pointing out what seems to be an historical fact--that MLK Jr was about to give a speech about America going to hell--constitutes using "King's lifeless body to help shore up support for Obama." It is simply something that appears to be a truism.

I doubt, however, the contention that America is more conservative than it is liberal. We know from the 2000 and 2004 elections, for example, that more people agreed with the positions Gore and Kerry endorsed than those Bush endorsed. We have suffered from a deficit in framing of the issues and a deficit in creating effective, resonant narratives about our candidates and our opponents.

To solve that problem, we have to look toward who is best equipped to provide a successful narrative framing of the issues--I repeat, the majority of Americans agree with us on most issues--and who can offer something like a paradigm shift. I don't believe that's Sen Clinton.

Do you see the contradiction in terms? Hillary (in her own words) has a glorious 35years of experience including 8 years at the WH, and of course, her husband does have 8 years of solid presidential experience.

YET, she claims we have been battered and bruised for the last 40 years and STILL she wants a CLINTON to solve our problems.

:wtf:

Why would you go to the problem for the solution??? Isn't it time to move on from the same OLD problem creators to someone who has demonstrated more competence, better judgement, has lower negatives and better ability to unify the general public than Hillary Clinton?
