26. He's denouncing Wright for what he's said the past few days.
I think Obama looked sad to have to do this, but he did need to defend himself. He said Wright gave a performance that could increase the divides in this country while he's (Obama) been trying to heal them. Wright's worldview contradicts what Obama stands for. Also denounced Wright's claim that Obama was politically posturing. Denounced Wright/AIDS/US Govt, Farrakhan's worldview and any connection to it.
Obama cleaned the slate. Claims the person he saw yesterday was not the person he's known for 20 years.
Now you're caught up! :hi:

really didn't know what Wright's been up to and there it is in a nutshell ..in your post.

Wright said Obama was "politically posturing"..so Bob Herbert was right..Wright did come to bury Obama? Why in the hell would he do that after Obama's great speech defending him?

As people offered yesterday and I refused to believe,
Wright is in this for Wright, and he doesn't care who he tramples getting to where he wants to go. I do hope you get a chance to see a re-run of this. Obama is responding to every question asked, and just said he doesn't ever see this relationship returning to the way it was. Wright was not, per Obama, his spiritual advisor or mentor, Wright was his pastor. He's making that quite clear. His disappointment is obvious. :(

As the Finns like to say, "When the s**t is in the pants, it's too late."
And Obama has crapped a full load.
Only the hardcore supporters will be swayed at this maneuver.

Hear me out...

He's damaged from his 20-years association.
He didn't denounce the guy before, but now?
Now it cannot be taken "out of context".
And then Wright poured fuel to the fire.
People just will not find this Wright BS believable as Obama's wife has echoed some of Wright's tenor and context.
What Wright has done is terminal damage.
He has revealed who he is and has been.
Obama chose Wright.
That is heavy baggage.

Obama is toast with the needed swing voters.
Toast.

Super Delegates vote Hillary.

No votes cast or counted.
The race continues with Obama having failed to win anything since early Feb.
Obama hasn't a big state on the docket.
His hoss is saddled with more cargo than she can carry.

All this does indicate a position of strength.
If he had that position he'd have knocked Hillary out long ago.

Hope.

So do you think the 136 remaining DNC super delegates are going to go with the guy who has $40M+ in the bank he is not only willing to share but seems to get effortlessly over the internet? Or do you think they'll favor the candidate with $15M in debt with 17 fundraisers scheduled between now and June with her heavy hitter donors that have made veiled threats of withholding money to Pelosi if they don't get their way?

Tough choice. Wonder which way they'll go?

... that makes them "toxic waste", or any waste?

What new has been added to the equation?
Nada.

Obama wasn't vetted, and now that he has been for a few weeks, his foundation is crumbling.
Ok, not the hardcore Obamaniacs but those who will decide who the new "decider" will be.
Swing voters.
Obama's lost his luster.
He's not believable. He could no more disown the black community than he could disown Rev Wright.
He disowned him.
He did not know this was his pastor?
C'mon. 20-years?
Hate to say it but it's a damned if he does or doesn't.
That's why he's toast.

139. Baggage since 2000 for Hillary
1) list of her donors that are questionable or in jail
2) mysterious list of library donors that's still a secret
3) Do you really think Bill has kept his pecker in his pocket for the past seven years? I don't, and I'll bet the RW has a few surprises about that.
4) Snipergate. NAFTA lies. Mark Penn, Bill Clinton & Columbia ties
5) Obama has pulled out none of this to use against her in the primary. I doubt if the RW will be so gentlemanly.

And, sorry. Just because the stuff from before 2000 is old doesn't mean it won't get pulled out for those Americans who have "forgotten." Just what we all want -- eight more years of Clinton soap opera.

She doesn't just have a carryon bag like Obama. She's got a whole goddam caravan dragging along behind her.

he called Wright out on his comments and said soem of his remarks about AIDS and the US being terrorists are offensive to him.

He also called out Wright and the media.

82. From Talkingpointsmemo...key passage
The person I saw yesterday was not the person that I met 20 years ago. His comments were not only divisive and destructive, but I believe that they end up giving comfort to those who prey on hate, and I believe that they do not portray accurately the perspective of the black church. They certainly don't portray accurately my values and beliefs. And if Rev. Wright thinks that that's political posturing, as he put it, then he doesn't know me very well. And based on his remarks yesterday, well I might not know him as well as I thought, either.

32. I think Wright's sinking only his own boat.
He comes off as arrogant and hungry for attention. Not an appealing person.

Obama, on the other hand... still has... how long before the next primary?

We should all thank the mighty wurlitzer's players for pushing this issue so far in advance. Twice.

There is no reason for a pastor and one of his thousands of parishioners to have the same ideas, ideals, goals or anything of the sort. Obama is a politician and Wright is a pastor! Ne'er the tween shall meet, nor should they!

This is becoming a stupid fucked up circus, and Obama is passing out the cotton candy and peanuts. Stupid.

for the masses in America. What you're talking about is nuance and nuance unfortunately doesn't sell here.

Obama's playing the game. Wright's views have been unfairly tied to Obama as being one and the same by the stupid ass media. Unfortunately they'll probably be spinning this as some sort of flip-flop but at least Obama is dropping nuance for a clear and unambiguous disassociation from Wright.

On Edit: Don't hate the playa, hate the game.

He basically said, from now on I will not be answering questions about him, since I have made it clear his views are not mine. But of course they are going to make him answer questions about it from now til Christmas. The press love a good challenge like that. Hopefully he'll just say "I've addressed that" and move on, keep it short and simple.

Wright's words shouldn't matter, but since this is being pushed, Obama feels pushed to make it worse... you can only make things worse when you come up against a man of the cloth... especially one as good as Wright.

This should NOT have been an issue. Shit. I think Obama just fucked himself royal, in front of God and all these people.

141. One comment that struck a chord with me...
"Blacks rely on "right-brain" thinking, which is more creative, while whites rely on "left-brain" thinking, which is more logical". - Hmm, that explains why whites don't have any creativity. He blatantly insulted whites with that one phrase.

Then Monday he said Obama's denouncing of his words were political posturing. The entire speech Monday was a historical lesson on the black church, which was good. He then went on to say that any attack on Wright was an attack on that black church. Which implies that regardless of what Wright says, he cannot be held accountable unless you want to persecute the entire black church. He is a radical, no doubt about it. And I can side with alot of what he says and see past the soundbites. But he has a longstanding animosity with the white race. He is constantly drudging up slavery and racism and it's deep seeded history in America. And on numerous occasion he has demanded apologies for everything that has been done to the black race by America.

Really? Does an apology by the U.S. government, POTUS, really solve all of our race relations? Would that make blacks everywhere forget about the oppression and want to be friends again? For some reason I think it may be a little more like credit. Once you've screwed it up, you have to work like hell to get back to good. And we may still be in the upper 500's. We can't even get approved for a car loan.

Obama has IMO fought this decision for a while, but over the weekend came the straw that broke the camel's back. Until then it was all about the sermons, which kept distinct separation. Wright is now entering himself into the political arena, whether he wants it or not.

114. Obama said he was drawn to the church because of the
work they did in the community. Some churches are not so active in their social outreach.

Next people will be saying that Obama didn't go to church every Sunday - shame, shame on him. How many people have a close personal relationship with their pastor anyway??

105. Doesnt matter...
The right wing will continue to slam him for it and will soon manufacture another false scandal to embroil him in.

Hes done. Hillary's done. McCain will be the president using all the same tricks the fascists have been using for a decade. They control the media and the media controls the message. Thats been made perfectly clear these last 4 weeks. Until we take back the MSM the right wing will continue to steal elections and ransack the nation.

108. Agreed. This is way too late for this issue to be resolved in Obama's favor.

121. I wonder if Wright didn't do this on purpose so Obama could
denounce him and get him out of the way.

134. This is part of the strategy. Go Obama!!!
The more I think about it the more it seems pre-decided. This is really the best way for them to separate. Publicly and messily MUCH before the GE and after BO has almost sewn up the nomination.
