Kerry on Larry King?
Did he really say he turned down offers for security/terror briefings because he didnt have the time?
This is a serious mistake, unfortunatley this will be used against him very sucessfully. I dont understand why you put something like this right into the hands of your enemys to use against you.
All it needed was a bow wrapped around it. Not happy with this.

1. Hmmmm ....
... when was the terror alert? YESTERDAY. He gets his briefing TODAY. What is the problem?

Is this what you have to complain about?

Desperate - of course, the right wing and Drudge could just MAKE UP SHIT instead. Of course, they tried that already with the intern thing.

2. Do you have any IDEA what this sound bite will do?
I dont care if he got the briefing yet or not.
Do you nderstand how bad this sounds during a campaing where terrorism is a huge issue????
swing voters are going to decide this election!
Providing a sound bite/comment like that was a huge mistake.
You can say 1000 things great, and you screw up on one and its over.
Thats politics ok. I dont make up the rules. That is the way it works. He has handed the republicans a powerful tool to be used against him.

6. You should have a higher opinion of swing voters
They're typically thinkers, they just haven't decided yet. They won't decide on "sound bites".

3. Read the transcript for yourself
KING: When do you -- when do you get your briefing?

KERRY: We're arranging it. It's at the end of the week I'll get it.

KING: Should be pretty soon.

KERRY: I think it's tomorrow or the next day.

KING: And as for the vice president, he gets one, as well, right?

11. Not quite correct in your transcript
Here is a copy from the King website:

KING: Tonight -- exclusive: Senator John Kerry and Teresa Heinz Kerry, their first interview event since he named John Edwards his vice presidential pick. Why do you think they'll win and should win the White House? And their reaction to this morning's terror warning, and more.
John Kerry, Teresa Heinz Kerry next, together for the hour on LARRY KING LIVE.

Good evening. Welcome to a special edition of LARRY KING LIVE here in New York with Senator John Kerry, who's frequently appeared on this show, and Teresa Heinz Kerry, her first appearance on this show. We thank you both very much for coming.

Let's get to, first thing's first, news of the day. Tom Ridge warned today about al Qaeda plans of a large-scale attack on the United States, didn't increase the -- do you see any politics in this? What's your reaction?

KERRY: Well, I haven't been briefed yet, Larry. They have offered to brief me; I just haven't had time. But all Americans are united in our efforts to defeat terrorism.

Stupid move, he just handed the GOP a grenade.

14. There is no new information. That whole alert is nothing but
trying to deflect attention away from Edwards. Kerry ain't the intellectual numbskull and slackard that Bush has proven to be. Nothing trumps bush's excessive lollygagging prior to 911. Nothing. That Kerry ain't playing along with Rove's attempts to sideline Kerry's campaign with empty alerts is admirable.

4. Even though you misquoted Kerry as evidenced by the
transcript why buy into a potential Repuke spin? Kerry has proven time again his commitment to his country and he is no slouch about keeping informed.

10. Want to Win - and Will Win
Why don't you ask Bush and the republicans in congress why they are focused on the Defense of Marriage Act today instead of voting thru appropriations for homeland security.

Yes, everyone knows there are terrorists - yes, we get the threat - the real question is what money is being given to state and locals so they can be prepared if something happens. Republicans in the Senate are holding up the money.....

9. Good job JI7. Yes, this sounds like a freeper troll. It's * who takesoff
to go golfing or (ahem) "ranching" instead of tending to important business.

8. I watched it and did not hear this. Teresa said they don't have time
for movies and books (F9/11 and Clinton's My Life) right now.

About the pre-war briefings, he said he and others in Congress saw the "intelligence," but they were not allowed to know the sources, which we all know now were unreliable sources, and Kerry and others would have known at the time that the sources were unreliable. But the administration had assured them that the sources were sound, which was untrue.

That's pretty much all I heard on the subject matter you mention.

12. no Republicans saw it anyway
it was on CNN, not Fox

I heard it and didn't think it was that big a deal ... the bigger problem he'll have is that his wife is very strong and opinionated and doesn't think twice about cutting him off to express herself ... Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly etc. are probably already trying to find a way to make her the second coming of Hillary and stir up all that good Clinton hate among the neanderthals who want their women barefoot, pregnant, and silent

opinionated but i suppose that is in the eyes of the beholder. I thought they had great chemistry together. Those slimebutts you mention are going to have a hard time demolishing her given that she was a Repub and voted for McCain.

btw tarheel welcome to Du. Glad you're here.
