Can the recent coverage on Wright be good for Obama? |
|
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 04:30 PM by Cant trust em
Every time I watch his appearances at the NPC or the NAACP dinner his image is solidifying as Jeremiah Wright, not just Obama's former pastor. I feel like the more he becomes his own character in the media's screenplay, the less he is seen as someone tied to Obama. Wright being all over the television shows that this guy is mostly in promotion for himself, and obviously not just plugging for Obama. If that were the case then he'd be on a remote island in the pacific right now.
Or as usual, I'm totally wrong because I have no idea how average MSM-watching voters think.

It distinguishes Wright from Obama. The country is tiring of Wright. We now know him better, and don't care to see more, thank you very much.
It allowed(or forced) Obama to leave Wright's brand of belief publicly behind. Obama doesn't believe the same things Wright does, it is obvious, but this makes it clear.
We can move forward from here. Wright is no longer Obama's pastor, he is a self-promoter, Obama has denounced him, and will rise above his divisiveness.

Even bad press is still press. Obama/Wright have dominated the news cycle for days. Hillary has been an afterthought. And considering she has no money, the press is the only way she can keep her name in front of people.
Her campaign is desperate. They've resorted to begging for debates, playing gutter politics, and slam-blogging. It's not going to change the foregone conclusion: Obama is our nominee.

3. You haven't seen the last of Rev Wright. Wright and his followers will not |
|
take this unfair trouncing of his character. Obama knew full well
what kind of man he was, he has heard his ideas for over twenty years
and now when it is politically convienient he throws him overboard.
Wright will be looking for payback- BigTime.

4. That actually confirms my point |
|
If Wright "will be looking for payback" then it confirms that he and Obama are not running as the same person. Which is essentially the proposition being made by Obama's detractors.

6. Of course they are not the same person, the question is , is Wright essentially the |
|
same man with the same world view that we saw over the last couple of months as the Wright that Obama has known for 20 years.
If people from the congregation can confirm that the Wright at the National Press Club is the same guy who has lead Trinity United for decades, Obama
will have more to answer for.

7. I suspect that over the course of 20 years Obama heard some controversial things |
|
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 05:25 PM by Cant trust em
but they weren't frequent enough to merit any separation between him and Wright. My guess is that the relationship with Obama and TUCC is like any other relationship that people are in. With my family I've certainly had disagreements in my lifetime. Plenty of people have said things that I deeply disagreed with. But since those instances are so dwarfed by the good times, you stick with your family and don't sever all of those ties. I'd expect that the same applies here. Sure, Wright probably did say some controversial things that Obama heard when he was in church, but those instances were probably infrequent enough so that you don't ditch them and the majority of positive things that you hear.

11. I've changed my "tune" as it were, a LOT over the past 20 years. |
|
It's entirely possible that, for whatever reasons, Wright's become more radical and embittered over time.
I grew up in a staunch Irish Catholic household. The pastor was at my dad's Thursday night poker parties for years. Good guy. Much loved by the congregation. Turns out he was an AVID racist -- nobody ever knew until after he retired and he didn't have to be The Pastor any longer.
Some people from the congregation (including a reporter) have expressed surprise at Wright's vicious vitriol.
I don't know the whole story. Neither do you.
