3. Nader just said the threshold to be included in the debates
should be 5%. I don't get it. He doesn't have 5%. So why is he upset if he is excluded from the debates?

4. Well I say it should be 15%. NyahhNyahh Ralph.
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 01:30 PM by demwing2
After all, you have to have 15% in a Dem primary to get a delegate right?

Lets play the arbitrary percentage point game.

What arbitrary percent do YOU think should be required, if ANY at all?

Maybe it shouldn't be about current points, but some other factor, such as having a candidate on the ballot in every state?

26. That is proof that Nader is lying filth.
He should at least be able to read poll numbers. On average he is at 2-4%.

5. I can't believe anyone would actually vote for Nader
This guy is so obviously an egomaniac. What does he do in between presidential runs to effect the kind of change he wants others to commit to?

What a jerk.

8. God, now he is talking about the people
who will suffer if Bush gets re-elected. You can hear the empathy in his voice. I'm glad we have a good candidate, but we'd better do something smart with Dean after this?

He also just asked Ralph to join the team. Very classy.

Ralph then goes into a rant. He just doesn't get it.

Dean is telling it like it is in a very measured and correct tone. Nader sounds like a cranky the old asshole that he is.

16. Dean's message: Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 02:53 PM by flpoljunkie
Dean repeated this more than once during the debate, and made the case for not voting for Ralph Nader very cogently.

Ralph, on the other hand, was less than honest, regarding the help he is receiving from the Republicans who are trying to put him on the ballot in Oregon and of the donations he has received from Bush supporters--the maximum amount, by the way, some as large as $2,000--total GOP contributions said to represent 10% of Nader's total contributions. Dean's point to Nader was that "the ends do not justify the means"--a message which "Saint Ralph" chose to ignore, of course.

And another thing, Ralph Nader, we do not have a proportional system (like in Great Britain) and we are very unlikely to ever have one. We live in the real world, even though you choose not to, Ralph--and our main concern is what Dean also repeated--we, as progressives, must do everything we can to send George W. Bush back to Crawford,Texas.

Dean was a very able messenger today--too bad the egotistical Ralph Nader has his fingers stuck in his ears, as usual.

20. I thought Nader held his own
Yes, he's a cranky old bastard and he should get out of the race. But he did have a great line he shot at Dean about how he had gone from being an insurgent to being detergent.

And he did repudiate that right-wing group that was helping him in Oregon (conveniently after the fact).

But Nader thinks he's on a mission from God, so to speak. So nothing is going to get him out of the race.

Dean was quite deferential to him, I thought. It's probably time to play hardball.

I thought it was great. They discussed real issues and they were both good humored and well-spoken. It was decent of Dean to engage Ralph and he handled it well - without hostility or bitterness.

28. I love Howard Dean, but the freak Nader deserves hostility and bitterness.
I am very proud of my (tiny) part of bringing Howard Dean before our country; and very proud of how Howard Dean is serving his country with selflessness and dedication.

As for the freak liar Nader, he's a front for the Cheneyites, an absolutely disgusting Repuke pig.

I am extremely bitter about Nader's entire carreer of self-serving fraud and lies. There is not one honest shred in Nader's entire public life. He will leave his public life in service to fraud, just as he entered it.

Nader is rot.

30. Wow!!!
I finally got a chance to see the debate. Dean was on fire! I thought he did a brilliant job, and I couldn't be more thrilled. His message was clear and thoughtful, and right on target. The Dem party does need reform, but the stakes are much too dangerous this year, and the people shouldn't have to suffer for it. As he said, "When the house is on fire, it's not the time to fix the furniture!" :-)

31. Dean and Arianna and the house on fire quote. This is so funny.
I love this.
Dean said not time to fix the furniture. Arianna recently said:

"And speaking of lighting fires, she has another fire analogy that very quotable: "When your house is on fire, it's not the time to talk about remodeling."

The debate was great, and it made a lot of people pay more attention to what is going on.

Arianna introduced him Tuesday at a LA fundraiser. Pic.

I knew I had heard that quote before, and I just assumed it was from Dean. Now, I remember seeing Arianna Huffington on Crossfire awhile back saying that same thing. :D

I agree, for anyone watching that debate, it really made them think twice about who to vote for. I hope the debates continue, and I hope Dean continues to speak up for US!!!

I never thought he would sound like a dated progressive. He does. He just sounds like a desperate windbag. The creep needs to drop out.
