with the anchor smugly bragging about how he fooled an intern into looking for video footage of the debate. And what did they show while he was talking about showing up their poor ignorant gullible intern? Photos of Lincoln and FREDERICK DOUGLASS!!!

1. I know they are stupid but I learned that by fifth grade.
They probably put up a pic of Frederick Douglass because he was black.

7. Since when was Frederick Douglas Senator from Illinois?
Stephen Douglas was the Douglas in Lincoln-Douglas. And Stephan Douglas won the election following the debates, for what it is worth.

17. Well... almost right, but incomplete.
First off, Stephen Douglas was the incumbant Senator. As such, he represented his party, not really himself in the debates. That's because the debates weren't about the election of a Senator (Senators were still 'elected' by the state legislature at the time) but were about gaining seats in that state legislature. Also at that time, the Republican Party was newly established from the former Democratic Republican Party. The remaining Democratic Party was actually TWO parties - the Northern Democrats and the Southern Democrats, separate and distinct. Stephen Douglas was a Northern Democrat and his loss, two years later, in the Presidential election was in large part attributable to the fractured Democratic Party.

19. The format of the original Lincoln-Douglas Debates....
"Each debate had this format: one candidate spoke for an hour, then the other candidate spoke for an hour and a half, and then the first candidate was allowed a half hour "rejoinder." " (from Wikipedia)

I can't imagine either Hillary or Obama speaking for an hour and a half uninterrupted....and even less the crowd of today's mindset being able to stay awake that long....

In regards to the 1958 election, Lincoln lost the election. However, Douglas' statements hurt him later in his run for president.

15. I agree with the debate proposed by Clinton
If it satisfies Democrats, we would be questioning the need of moderators in future debates. We do not need moderators. They are allergic to issues.
