Ed Rollins on CNN: If this Dem primary is decided on race instead
of issues, Obama loses. Rollins even sounded disgusted, and he's a McCain guy, I think.

So, we shall see what transpires from tonight on. Who will be pushing what, and why?

1. Ed Rollins = GOP operative. Do opposite of what he says
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 09:44 PM by featherman
Crazy (but typical) CNN panel: one (black) Obama guy, two Republican operatives (Gergen and Rollins) and one Hillary campaign luminary

2. I know he is, so what he said is even more honest. If you don't think so,
why don't you? He's right; this race cannot only be about race instead of so many pressing issues that everyone seems to forget about.

7. I totally agree with you... Don't care what his political affiliation is, he is one honest...
and very smart man, just as David Gergen is... These two guys have been around for along time, and for the most part have been very honest with what they have said.

28. Yes, but said PA a decisive win, and that is only the media's truth.
That's apart from voting machine disenfranchisement in Philly. (too few and broken)

8. I guess my take was that Rollins WANTS it to continue to be about race
Which is why he makes the point. Subject to interpretation. Rollins will only say what is politically expedient for the GOP. He's not an honest broker. In this case he appears to be a "concern troll"i.e. "If this is about this (black man's) race, then this (black man) will LOSE. etc.
Just my take but please remember that I am in GE mode and consider the lingering primary campaign a temporary distraction to the real fight ahead. So this colors my thinking on this stuff.

12. Did you see the interview? Because I don't think he was saying
that at all. I'd love to be in GE mode, but it's not happening yet. Soon, I'm hoping.

27. Actually I cruised by it after eyeballing the panel... pretty sick of the big
deal that CNN made about Wright, so didn't stick around for the self-aggrandizement and pontificating. Sorry if I missed some good stuff.

31. I usually watch msnbc, so this was a revelation to me, even though
I missed a big part of the discussion. But Rollins seemed pretty genuine and I have to agree with him.

24. I totally agree Babylonsister. And judging by his facial expression and his intonation,
he truly thinks that a primary decided on by race would be a tragedy and a travesty. Yes his is extremely GOP, but he was real about that point.

25. Rollins also said Clinton won PA decisively. Wrong.
Obama improved on every category, never was supposed to win, even the state's middle group of 'bitter people' better than expeted. Add in Nutter and Rendell's disenfranchising Philly voters by machine allocation, like OH, Obama took a bad loss media listening to Hillary's camp for talking points.

3. I gotta say, I was very impressed with all of the panel on AC360 tonite...
Rollins, Gergen, Martin, and (sorry don't recall the Lady's name) but she was awesome as well.

My big hope now is that Wright will (please, please, please) do not come out at this time.... Thank you.

20. What I said in the OP is the major part I saw.
The panel was discussing the ramifications of Obama's press conference against Wright today.

If you missed it, there's the statement and questions asked on DU's youtube forum. Well worth watching.

4. If this primary/election is decided by race, everyone loses.
As long as race/sex are issues for a candidate, we all lose.

I know that Ed is a republican, but he has been in and around politics for along time and he is very savvy IMO.... Not saying that I agree with him all of the time, but he certainly is honest and fair. IMO

16. Ed Rollins is a right wing prick
who has ran some of the most negative campaigns in history. I wouldn't put too much weight on a single syllable that comes out of his mouth.

19. You trust Ed Rollins???
Ed Rollins is pure GOP... you can NEVER trust anyone within the GOP for an "honest" opinion.
Watch for Ed Rollins to bring up race as an issue in the coming days.

And that worked out really well. Rollins hasn't backed a winner in decades.

race, as opposed to Obama's untrustworthiness.
