Poll question: Do you give two pieces of poo about the Rev. Wright thing? |
|
I just don't feel comfortable putting "shit" in one of my subject lines.
But, seriously, do you care about this?

1. do you mean personally, or in terms of the broader impacts |
|
I don't care personally. Unfortunately the media loves this stuff (see also Elizabeth Edwards on Amercian's knowledge of bowling score) so it bothers me in that way.

4. Do you think your concern about the media's seeming to care, |
|
or that collective concern, might in fact keep the controversy going, even though nobody actually gives a shit about this guy?
And what if the media is just doing this because they think YOU care?

5. The question is difficult. Ultimately, it's fucking irrelevant what Wright says. |
|
The only thing that truly matters is what a candidate says.
However, since the media have decided that Wright is an abomination and an America-destroying Obama-slaying wildcard pile of shit, I care. And because American media has as much of an idea about how to report on Wright as they do how to calibrate the magnets at CERN, I care.
And it's fucking sad that we're even in this position.
I don't give a shit what any candidate's friend, mentor, pastor, wife, husband, child, grandparent, neighbor, or favorite author says.
The only thing that is relevant is what the candidate him/herself believes, says, and does.

15. Our candidate said Wright "has been like family to me" |
|
That's why I care. It would be swell to win this time. I've never trusted Obama's political instincts, and he left himself wide open in that supposedly brilliant race speech in March.
Lou Dobbs played the March and April clips side by side today, first today's version then the related segments from March. Get used to it. One can only imagine what the GOP manipulators have in store.
Rapid risers tend to get it wrong in the face of sudden adversity. That's why I never fully trust them, in sports or politics or anywhere. Obama wasn't challenged by Alan Keyes in '04 and IMO he expected to similarly coast this time, once he took the foundational lead in delegates. Today on CNN or MSNBC I heard a blurb that members of Obama's team think he has become bored of the primaries. That's been my sense recently, something I mentioned a couple of times last week. His speeches are less varied and the spark is gone from his eyes, often replaced by a stern expression.
I loved his delivery on the gas tax issue. That's the best Obama I've detected in weeks.

7. A guy who has cared about the oppressed |
|
his entire life. Oh yeah, that's got me all torn up.
What a bunch of fucking idiots in this country. No wonder nothing changes. Do people think the corporate elites are going to drive up with marshmallows and gum drops and a free health insurance policy for everyone.

9. I'm glad its over distracting from the issues that this nation faces |
|
I like what he said but he's not gonna be running this nation or for that matter nor be in the next administration.
I've written very little on Wright, but welcome his discourse of the topics he covered in his speeches, many of those philosophical topics are more rationally discussed in GP by many good DUers.

13. No. As an upper-middle-class white atheist guy, I enjoy listening to him. |
|
I find his delivery engaging and I think he's dead-on right about 90% of what he says. The problem is that the other 10% is kinda batshit crazy.
...but those are my feelings about Wright's sermons. Those sermons...or what Wright believes...have absolutely nothing to do with U.S. Presidential elections.
This is a media-created issue and, if the average American wasn't so intentionally ignorant, they'd see it for what it is.

16. This was an excuse... |
|
for people who wanted a reason, any reason, to dislike him. I guess it's a good sign. If they can't dig up anything on him personally (Obama), well then they almost HAVE to target anyone they can associate with him.
I think a lot of what Wright has said is sound. But, restating his nuttier comments and being completely unapologietic for them hasn't helped him or Obama - in the least.

maybe if the writers strike was still on it would be an amusing reality tv show.
I would like to get back to presidential politics and neither of these characters are relevant.

17. I'm hoping this Wright stuff will be over soon. |
|
It's bad for Obama no matter how you slice it. I've stayed out of Wright threads just because it seems like the same exact thread over and over again and always ends with people yelling "racist" at each other.
