Points to work on national security and foreign travels

TIM FUNK

Observer Washington Bureau

ABOARD THE KERRY-EDWARDS CAMPAIGN PLANE - A day after President Bush suggested he wasn't qualified to be a heartbeat away from the presidency, Sen. John Edwards fought back Thursday, saying his "lifetime of experience" -- including a pre-Washington career of fighting for "ordinary people" in the courtroom -- gave him values and judgment Americans expect in their vice president and president.

In an interview with the Observer high above the Eastern Seaboard, the N.C. Democrat -- and Sen. John Kerry's choice as running mate -- also talked about campaign plans, his family and what he and Kerry agree should be their relationship if elected president and vice president.

Asked about suggestions from Bush and other Republicans that Edwards has too little foreign policy experience to lead in this post-9-11 world, the one-term senator pointed to work on national security and foreign travels before and after the Sept. 11 attacks.

"I helped investigate September 11, why it happened, how we can keep it from happening again," said Edwards, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee. "I helped write laws on bioterrorism, cyberterrorism. I've traveled to all the parts of the world that are hot right now. Met with (Israeli Prime Minister Ariel) Sharon, (Afghan President Hamid) Karzai and (Pakistani President Pervez) Musharraf. I have a clear sense of what America's role in the world is and how we need to lead. And I'm absolutely satisfied to have voters make their own judgment about this."

5. Don't take this crap from anyone
Mr. Edwards!

That imbecile squatter in the WH had some 4-6 years being one of the weakest governors in the US.

Cheney OTOH, has made millions off others' deaths and destruction -- a real piece of scum!

6. Keep on talking Smirk
You coin money for us Dems everytime you open your mouth. The audacity never cesases to amaze me though. Smirk, who was a lousy govenor feels like a 6 year Senator does not have the necessary experience to run the country, but a man who's only public office is Govenor is better qualified?

HA
