Indian industry should invest more in U.S.: Sen. Clinton

By M. Karthikeyan

At India Today Conclave India Tomorrow 2005: ‘Perception Versus Reality’

NEW DELHI: Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) has urged Indian industries to invest more in the United States to help prevent negative feelings over outsourcing of American jobs to India. “I have to be frank. People in my country are losing their jobs and U.S. policymakers need to address this issue,” she said, delivering the dinner keynote address at the India Today Conclave here on Feb. 26.

“In 2003, the U.S. merchandise exports to India was $5 billion, while the India exports to U.S. was $13.8 billion,” she said to drive home her point. Though the U.S. understood that the economic vibrancy of India was in its own interest, there are people who feel left behind and might stir up “negative feelings” against India because they do not understand the economic benefits of outsourcing, Sen. Clinton remarked.

If the feeling was to be arrested, Indian companies should invest more in the U.S. to create a balance in trade relations, she said, adding how she had personally wooed Indian companies to establish partnerships with American counterparts. “In June 2002, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) partnered with the University of Buffalo to bring patented research to the market place. I would like to see more of such partnerships,” Sen. Clinton said. But the N.Y. senator, being talked of in many circles as the Democratic presidential candidate in 2008, allayed apprehensions in India that there would be a bar on outsourcing. “There is no way to legislate against reality. Outsourcing will continue,” Sen. Clinton said.

1. "The beatings will continue until morale improves" - sign seen in an acct's office.
(the acct. was tough and by-the-rules but funny.)

NY state can't even stop the outsourcing to other parts of the country, then globally... So much for all she promised NY.

3. It will continue unless our elected representatives (that's you, Hillary)
DO something to stop it.

Has she taken steps to stop the hemmoraging? I recall her saying, during a debate, that she also wanted to EXPAND the H(whatever they are) visas.

9. Neither One Is Actually A Centrist
Obama is more to the left and Hillary is leaning toward the far right. Bury your head in the sand if you like, but that is the truth.

15. They're both centrists...sorry.
Sure, Obama is slightly further to the left, but do you want to try to compare him to Kucinich, Sanders, or Kennedy?

13. she called herself that at least twice. The Memo simply referenced her own words
and it's sad that the Obama campaign didn't fight back and emphasize that.

Bush/Cheney? (Hint: the right love to point it out when you complain about the no-bids in Iraq.)

And do you know who authorized extraordinary renditions before Bush?

22. and BILL benefitted financially from "helping" the Indians
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 11:21 PM by SoCalDem
Your posting confirms everything we fair-minded Democrats believe about the Clintons and their followers - "experienced" does not mean what we thought Hillary was referring to by her claim to "35 years' experience" (since debunked). "Experienced", in your vocabulary, is a euphemism for elitist tyranny, political exploitation for self-profiteering (do all Democratic voters know that Hillary Clinton (D-NY) has aligned herself with India and shipped thousands of US tech jobs offshore to India, and annually brings in 8,000 temporary Indian tech workers on H-1b visas rather than hire US workers, while ignoring her promise to bring jobs to NY State?? Or since 2002 Bill earned pver $4,000,000 in personal consulting fees from India and Hillary about $4 - $5,000,000 in campaign financing - - niether of which I have seen declared in her filed financial reports??).

The Clinton's KGB-style suppression of a legitimate opposition candidate's honest campaign is disgusting.

May God forgive them, and you, for violating the principals of the US Constitution and those upon which the Democratic Party was established. I recommend that the Clintons are exiled to India or Pakistan, where they have found friendship (a Hillary Rodham Clinton Mass Communication Center is being built in Mumbai, honoring Hillary's contribution to India's economy while NY Senator, during which representation of NY...Upstate New York never got the 200,000 jobs she promised , but actually lost another 30,000 jobs!!). The corrupt Clinton election tactics may also be more compatible with their friends in Pakistan. posted 03/29/2008 at 12:09:32

28. I don't see what the big deal is
Of course outsourcing will continue...a president can take steps to reduce it by changing the trade laws, but no president can stop all outsourcing from happening. It would be stupid of her or anyone else to promise otherwise.

29. the "wink-wink" aspect is what's important
she was worried about the "appearance" of the outsourcing..not the outsourcing itself..

and Bill made a TON of consulting money regarding those "investments" she suggested as "cover".:puke:
