3. It's a shame that the May 20th date is only in your own mind |
|
You can't make May 31 go away--there will be a resolution. And regardless of what happens with MI, FL will be seated. There delegates will be cut in half and Edwards will also get some delegates. A 50/50 split in FL is never going to happen, since everyone knows that FL's sentiments are not 50/50. And a 50/50 split is the same thing as a 0/0 split, you are saying that their state is meaningless. The DNC won't do that, as much as you and Obama might like them to. And nobody outside the Obama camp believes that the people of FL and MI can be spun into believing that what they really care about is sending people from their states to a convention in Denver. Obama blocked the new elections which means that we have no choice but to use the original elections.
MI will probably be seated in a way that gets Hillary a few extra delegates. Maybe she will get the 55% she won and then the delegates will be cut in half. That will give her six more.
Puerto Rico may get her 55 delegates and a lead in the popular vote--that's why Obama wants to pretend it's over before Puerto Rico--he knows what the results will be (also the reason he blocked the FL revote--he knew what would happen). But the PR media won't even address thia nonsense and it won't affect the outcome there. And I doubt that the U.S. media will ignore the May 31 meeting as if nothing is going to happen.
Not that any of this matters. In order to win the nomination you must win a majority of all the delegates to the convention. When Obama does that he is the nominee. Not sooner. People here on DU may celebrate and proclaim victory, but then again, they have already done that. And, of course, Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann will cary Obama's talking points--but they don't decide the nomination either.
So enjoy looking forward to May 20 and enjoy pretending for 2 weeks thereafter. On June 3 you will be facing a whole new reality.

32. You lose any right to say you stand for "progressive values" |

When you let your surrogates say the country's not ready for a black president. Saying that is the same thing as saying "segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever". It means telling black voters you don't give a damn about them.

Obama's proven he can take a punch and not hit the canvas. Isn't it time your candidate admitted she should stop bashing the candidate who is more likely to be nominated than she is?
She has to stop the attacks if she cares about this party.

19. There are no goalposts. Only Obama people have claimed that there are and it was |
|
first suggested during New Hampshire when it looked like Hillary would lose. NH was the first goalpost at which point she was "trying to change the rules mid-game."
Obama or Clinton get the nomination when one of them gets a majority of all delegates and FL and MI have been resolved--no sooner.

since it looked like Hillary would lose New Hampshire. If I'm in denial then there should be no problem here. Obama can wait until Denver to win. Or at least until all the SDs have announces by July 1.

25. Fair enough. But how about "firewalls"? |
|
But its a reasonable argument. I don't know where the Puerto Rico inclusion came from myself - having a part in the primary but none in the GE makes little sense. But rules are rules, and we'll see.
No problem with waiting for the delegate winner, and probably with whatever FL and MI resolution the DNC comes up with.

21. Understand this, if nothing else: the DNC has specifically stated that BOTH campaigns must agree... |
|
...to any seating.
Such seatings will NOT give clinton an advantage, no matter how much some here wish it to be so. This is well-known, and denying this fact is mere wishful thinking.
