I think we can all agree now that claims of media favoritism toward Obama are laughable |
|
Edited on Tue Apr-29-08 11:39 PM by Cali_Democrat
Have you turned on the tube lately? I recommend you don't, but if you do it's non-stop Obama bashing. The bashing is relentless and it's 24/7. Wright, Ayers, flag pins, bitter comments, you name it. The media is throwing the kitchen sink at Obama.
I always like to think back to the days when Hillary and her supporters claimed that the media was anti-Hillary. Of course this was after the media declared her the inevitable candidate for about a year :eyes:
The media was never really in the tank for Obama. They were simply reporting on the new phenomenon that was Obama and this angered Hillary and her supporters. I mean who knew that a black man could do what Obama had been doing?
Hillary's supporters often said Obama was being treated with kid gloves by the media. Hillary's main beef was that she was asked the first question far too often and the media should provide a pillow for Obama. Poor Hillary. Obama was absolutely savaged in the last debate.
Now look at what's going on. Fox News' agenda is now to bury Barack Obama. Obama is being completely savaged by all the news networks. All the conservative pundits on TV and in the press are in the tank for Hillary. Obama is being relentlessly attacked for being "unable to appeal to blue-collar whites." Of course Hillary is having her own problems with appeal or she wouldn't be losing. I could go on and on.
Just think back to the days when Hillary supports claimed there was a pro-Obama media.

2. I think the media are intent on prolonging the agony |
|
and damaging the Democrats as much as possible by November. Their simple strategy is to attack whichever candidate is on top, knock that one down, and then turn on the other. That way they get to inflict maximum damage to both before the Convention, and then after the nominee is decided, they go after the survivor, all the while building McCain.

5. The media favors themselves. Sometimes that benefits Obama, sometimes Clinton |
|
There are no doubt individual pundits who have their own bias and opinion, but overall the one thing you can count on in the mainstream media is for it to be self-serving. They have no particular loyalty to anyone. Whatever is most sensational, whatever generates the most faux-controversy, whatever will generate the most ratings - that is what they are going to go with.
People don't understand that Clinton is often more of a story because, in lieu of any other sensational news the default story is the story of this person who seems to be the odds underdog to take the nomination, who many (not all, not majority) feel has already lost who continues to stay in the fight. If roles were reversed, and Obama was in Clinton's position, coverage of him would be largely the same. Not identical, but similar.
On the other hand, if Obama enjoys any slight advantage in the media, it only comes from being the new kid on the block, and a very talented kid at that. However, I think most reasonable people will agree with me when I say that the advantage he may have gotten early from his "newness" has largely evaporated as the media becomes "used" to Obama. So we are back to a situation where the media basically covers stories according to whatever serves their own interest at the time.

6. Not really. They tried their best to pump him up and give him all kinds of passes. |
|
It's not their fault Rev. Wright was his pastor, that Obama lied about many of the facts involved in this debacle, that Obama decided that his charm would be enough to get him through thism, that holding on to that black voting block by not dissing Wright in the beginning was more important than integrity. The media did all they could while attacking Bill and Hillary on every hand. But it wasn't enough. The next shoe will drop concerning the Rezko thingy.

I'm tired of trying to tell these fools that she has a semi-truck load of baggage that hasn't even been seen, let alone rifled through. They have to make up scandals on Obama, that's how clean he is. If they cared anything at all about this country, they'd be able to see that in an instant.

The media criticism has nothing to do with anything Obama did himself. It has to do with what people around Obama said.

The new administration needs to add 5 new positions to the Supreme court otherwise it is useless. They can do this with a majority in the Senate, house and executive branch.

|
in general. Obama's getting it now because he's the front-runner. If Hillary overtakes him they'll be back to unleashing hell fire on her again. One thing is 100% certain: whoever is he nominee will be swiftboated, slandered, lied about, and belittled like no candidate before them. We can only hope that the voters are smarter than the media gives them credit for. I'm not optimistic.

31. It was blatant favoritism of Obama during the pivotal months |
|
And that won't even be debated, years from now, regardless of the outcome of the general election. Right now there's predictable paranoia over recency, and we're not competent enough to remember what was on the other side of the fence we just scaled. But eventually books will be written, some concessions of media members, and devastating stats compiled. Not much different than viewing a football game the second time around, minus the slantboard impact of a feverish rooting interest when the outcome was still in doubt.
Wag terms like The Obama Network never threaten to exist if there's not plenty of truth to it.

Then, once he became the apparent nominee, as if on cue, they turned on him.
No one who knows anything about the corporate media can claim to be surprised by this. It's the usual script, and they followed it meticulously.

Obama and Wright are driving the attention of the press right now. How can one not show up with a camera when Wright steps up at press conferences, etc and makes such controversial statements? Obama and his friends are the ones creating ALL of this drama. Stop blaming everyone else!
