With all the divisive shit going on, I figured we would have a thread on what needs to be done, the groundwork needed, to pressure the next President of the United States to do the right thing on various issues. Because, the Gods know, they won't do it all by themselves.
A couple of things, first, a disclaimer, if you will, I'm assuming the next President is a Democrat, and I'm not specifying whether its Hillary or Obama, because, to be honest, they aren't that different where it counts, so they will have to be pressured by the political left to do the correct thing on the issues. Both of them have there own ideas on some of these issues, and they happen to be wrong on these ideas, so we should try to find ways to make them listen to and follow us.
First the methods that can be used, the first is simply to threaten to not support them anymore if they don't go in the right direction. This can be done by withdrawing funds from their future campaign for re-election, no longer donating to the DNC, and telling them why, in addition to supporting any future primary challengers in 2012. The key is to actually follow through with the threat, if we can't do that, we are toothless and ineffective.
Another method is direct action, protests, etc. This means protesting stupid shit the President has done, such as not withdrawing from Iraq in a timely manner, even if it means parking your ass on the White House lawn until you get arrested.
Yet another method is more indirect, and that is to put pressure on other Democrats in Congress, Representatives and Senators. This can include the above two methods to pressure these people as well, to convince them to also pressure the President to do the right thing, and see if results can happen that way.
The Big issues of the next few years are: The Iraq War, The Global War on Terror, Health Care, Employment, The Economy, Energy conservation, Civil Rights and Free Trade.
The fact is that we face an uphill battle, and I prefer our opponent to be a Democrat over a Republican, the key here is to not let up on the pressure, and even when setbacks occur, to not give up.
This is my "positive" post of the day! :)
