My fellow Obama supporters |
|
Dear fellow Obama supporters, I realise that most of us aren't guilty of what I am about to say. Likewise, I realise that many of us harbour some ill feeling toward Hillary Clinton these days. That's understandable. However, for the sake of trying to maintain some kind of basic civility in politics (and I'm aware that the HRC campaign has outraged civility in their own ways but I'm not a Clinton supporter), can we agree that the following three points should be left well enough alone:
1. Sexist language. Words like "bitch", "whore", "cunt" etc, should be reserved for use between consenting adults in an intimate setting, not hurled around in political discussions.
2. Speculation on the state of the Clinton's marriage. We have no idea if the Clinton's are a loving couple or moments away from divorcing. Nor should we have any idea because it's none of our business. This also applies to any repetition of the Lewinsky mess. I already heard more about Monica Lewinsky than I ever wanted to.
3. Accusations of lesbianism. This is a little odd because I actually couldn't care less if Hillary is gay but since the USA is still a fairly homophobic place, this classes as a smear. It has not an iota of evidence and again, even if it were true, it's none of our business. Whether Hillary enjoys sapphic tendancies makes sod all difference to how she'd run the country.
If we wish to restore some kind of dignity and civility to the political process, we do so starting with ourselves.
Yours, Prophet

and I would like to add, defending the indefensible by pointing out how the Clinton campaign behaved like pond scum first is not a valid excuse...
(but the Clinton campaign has behaved more pukish than the pukes)

3. Never done any of those three... |
|
...don't intend to. Needless, really. She's quite made herself look ugly and calculating enough without any of that.

4. Yes, many of us, from time to time, slip over the line, but HRC is not ROYALTY. |

The "feigned indignation" by many of her supporters only makes the complaints worse.
Ask yourselves, IF by some means "The Clintons" ended up back in the Executive Branch with their beloved DLC insiders, HOW TRANSPARENT would this branch prove to be?
What troubles me most is that when HRC is criticized, her supporters jump on us as "Hillary Haters" not unlike our present Ruler.
Although I'll admit to being too blunt at times because I honestly consider HRC a poor role model for young women, this is still The United States of America. Further, the last I checked, The Clintons and their DLC STILL don't RUN the Democratic Party.

10. No, she isn't royalty |

Nor am I suggesting that she should be immune from criticism. By all means, criticise her for what she has done or will do. What I am saying is simply that decent people should consider certain forms of accusation to be beneath them and beneath what we would hope the level of discourse should be.

6. I agree with #1 and #3. Partially #2. But if HRC wins the nom, you WILL be hearing about Monica |
|
over and over and over.
That is one point of Clinton that does need to be vetted.

Bill cheated on Hillary with an intern and got caught. They patched up their marriage and got on with their lives. Happens every day. Contrary to popular belief, infidelity doesn't always cause the break-up of a marriage.
And to be honest, whether teh Rethugs would do it too is besides the point. They might well do, that's a good reason we shouldn't, we're supposed to be better than them. If the other side is going to shoot at you, it's kinda pointless to supply them with free ammo.

There's a fair bit on 1 and 2 going on, less of 3 although it crops up on occasion.

11. I have alerted on all 3 numerous times. |
|
But I also do think that Lewinski will be an issue all over again in the GE if Clinton is nominated. The wingers will make sure of it.
