GOP incumbent's take on local candidate: "Howard Dean..coming after me."
This is really a funny article in the St. Pete Times. Our local Dean-inspired candidate is the topic of the letter sent out by our really bad incumbent who votes with Bush 100% of the time.
It is really dripping with sarcasm.

http://www.sptimes.com/2004/07/09/Hillsborough/Rep_Putnam_says_foe_f.shtml
SNIP..."Rep. Putnam says foe fits into mold of Howard Dean
By Times staff writers
Published July 9.

"It seems the ghost of Howard Dean is dogging U.S. Rep. Adam Putnam, the Republican incumbent who is likely to have no problem defending his seat in District 12.

"Remember Howard Dean?" reads a recently mailed fundraising letter from Putnam, who represents most of Polk County, much of Hillsborough and a sliver of Osceola counties. "In case you thought he and his ultraliberal views were gone and forgotten . . . He's back - and he's coming after me!"

The pitch goes on to say that Dean may no longer be a candidate for president, but he raised millions of dollars, attracted thousands of followers, and vowed to use his resources to elect candidates who share his views.

"One of them is right here in the 12th Congressional District."

Read on in the article to compare the huge amounts raised by Repubs here. It is just outrageous.
Here is our candidate's website:

A first time candidate against a money machine who rode the plane with Bush on 9/11.....after they were at Booker School together. Jeff has just set up a blog, so say hello.

3. That was funny, wasn't it? You gotta know this Putnam guy to appreciate.
We have to get him out of there. He is dangerous for Florida.

7. You should send this link to Howard! It would make his day!
After, some of his opponents criticized him for being too short, and certainly not powerful enough to be President. He'd love it to know he's so intimidating NOW.

8. I agree
Someone please send this to Howard, and maybe he will take the time to actuallly help our guy. I'm watching the Nader-Dean debate. Wow, Dean is soooo good. We are so lucky to have him. I hope the JJ administration will make him an offer he can't refuse and he will continue to work for the good of this party and America. I do love him.

11. ultra liberal!!
Talk about missing the point.

There isn't an ultra liberal out there who thinks Dean is one of them.
However , they work with him because he's truthful, pragmatic, charismatic , and....right.

12. This Putnam is a piece of work.
My contacts with his office are not pleasant. He is all for privatizing everything, going after the world, and he sounds just like Bush.

That is what they do here, toss the word liberal so freely.

SNIP..."He's Coming After Me!
When you are a previously un-opposed congressional candidate running for office with a warchest over 90 times as large as your democratic opponent, nothing can more be meddlesome -- or land a monkey-wrench in your plans -- than running against a Dean campaign inspired candidate with national grassroots support. The St. Petersburg Times yesterday reported on fundraising tactics used by U.S. Rep. Adam Putnam, the Republican incumbent for Florida's District 12. The grassroots have Putnam singing the victim song to his big donors.

SNIP..."Putnam is right. Democracy for America and the Dean Dozen are coming after elected officials and cozy incumbents who have forgotten that their right to govern comes from all their constituents, not just the ones throwing out the large checks.

Balderdash on those grassroots!"

Democrat Siemer Tries to Oust Putnam

By Bill Rufty
The Ledger
bill.rufty@theledger.com

LAKELAND -- Democrats will hold a rare primary for the 12th Congressional District in the Aug. 31 elections.

Jeff Siemer, a financial software consultant from Lakeland, is one of two Democrats seeking the post now held by Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Adam Putnam of Bartow.

The son of a Navy family, Siemer, 35, was born in Japan.

He received a bachelor's degree in education and social policy from Northwestern University. "

More about Jeff: "In the late 1990's, I served as an election supervisor in Bosnia with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe."

15. Jeff's post at the blog, really got some responses.
From www.blogforamerica.com
Comments section.

SNIP.."It's been quite an exciting morning for my campaign. Imagine checking your email in the morning and seeing campaign contributions from across the country--even one from Tokyo!

A big thank you - to Tanner (Dean blog host), for bringing attention to what we're trying to do here in Florida, and all of you bloggers, for your support.

We're running a true grassroots campaign here, with no paid staff or consultants. We're also running a truly progressive campaign, standing up for universal healthcare and a woman's right to choose, for protecting the environment and against the war in Iraq, for fiscal responsibility, sound trade policy, and defending the rights of all Americans to marry.

Thank you all for your contributions, and support."
