Capitol Hill insiders say the battle for congressional superdelegates is over: Obama has it...
Obama may win Hill superdelegate fight
By AMIE PARNES & JOSEPHINE HEARN | 4/30/08 4:31 AM EST

Capitol Hill insiders say the battle for congressional superdelegates is over, and one Senate supporter of Barack Obama is hinting strongly that he has prevailed over Hillary Rodham Clinton.

While more than 80 Democrats in the House and Senate have yet to state their preferences in the race for the Democratic nomination, sources said Tuesday that most of them have already made up their minds and have told the campaigns where they stand.

“The majority of superdelegates I’ve talked to are committed, but it is a matter of timing,” said Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.). “They’re just preferring to make their decision public after the primaries are over. ... They would like someone else to act for them before they talk about it in the cold light of day.”

Still, supporters of both Clinton and Obama say that the lobbying for congressional superdelegates seems to have decreased in recent weeks.

McCaskill said that the campaigns have all but given up on lobbying her Senate colleagues because they know their minds are made up.

1. then they should get their asses out there and endorse him
yes, they have been doing it one or two a day, but I think to help put this Wright thing behind him some of them a bloc of 15 or 20 of them should come out NOW and endorse him to show their confidence has not been shaken.

5. I would love to see a bloc go to Obama.
Maybe after a Tuesday they will. If he wins both IN and NC, they would be boosting the winner and likely Nominee. If he loses in IN, they would be helping. I think a week from today would be the most effective time.

If they wait until after the expect WV loss, it would look like sore losing.

Of course, now would be great!

7. Agreed. Quit cowering and grow a spine, soopers!
The Clintons hold on the party gets weaker each day. Don't be a-skeered of them.

I gotta  at Phil Singer for continuing to refer to the soopers as "automatic delegates." Stale talking point.

8. Hill's gutter politics has put off alot of SD's...
remember she started out with an over 200 count SD lead before the primaries started.

I bet alot of them are as sick of that ghoul as I am.

9. Congress critters are used to counting votes and knowing where the support lies.
They do it all the time.

10. It has always been my suspicion
that both campaigns have a list of SDs that have endorsed 'behind the scenes', and decide themselves when to let them out. Obama's been letting two out a day, aware that any larger will be seen as unfair by Clinton supporters, but its been a pretty steady drip for some time now. Clinton has a smaller list so can't afford to go 2 for 2 lest she runs herself dry, but is letting out 1 per day to have it seem like she's still gaining SDs. I have nothing to back it up, but that's my hunch.
