What can Dems declare war on? |
|
Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 10:58 PM by gulliver
In the 2002 election, the execrable Bushies decided to blatantly use a trumped up case for war in Iraq as a political tool. There has never been a lower point in politics. It proved how far they will go and how desperate they are to win at any cost.
In 2004, Bush is trying to take Dems to the mat again on gay marriage. He could wait for the Defense of Marriage Act to do its job just like he could have waited for the U.N. inspectors in Iraq to do theirs. But instead Bush is pushing a constitutional ban on gay marriage. Imagine that.
Can there be any doubt Bush is using this issue as a political tool? He's declaring war on gay marriage when there are already laws on the books that haven't been enforced or tested in the court system.
My question is, what can the Democrats declare war on in order to take Bush to the mat?
How about "zero tolerance on corporate criminals like Ken Lay?" The Dems could declare war on Ken Lay and his like and take no prisoners. Force Bush to show how soft he is on corporate crime, how weak he is on ensuring the integrity of the American business environment on which we all depend.
Any other ideas on things we could use to force the Republicans onto the defensive and keep them there? If they want the gloves off, lets take them off.

Tired of lies, deceit, recession, terrorist attacks, corruptions, sweetheart corporate deals, and a new excuse every week for why we invaded a nation at peace? Vote Democrat. Tell the Republicans to come back when they've cleaned up a bit.

4. how about oil dependency |

Do some crash program to build solar, wind, and other alternative energy sources. It would employ a lot of people in good paying jobs.

That has real potential as a wedge issue. Bush would definitely be on the wrong side in a war against oil dependency. Kerry already talks about it. Maybe a little more pressure on it would be nice.
Bush is on the side of dependency ... on the side of oil pushers...
Nice one!

Yes, I'd like to know when someone is going to address the real antics of George Bush and his brothers and their boozing around. Let's get real. This guy is as dry a drunk as they come. Why is it such a taboo subject? This guy drank like a fish. Born again my ass.
The deficits. Do George Bush, the Hilton sluts or any other Palm Beach type's expect to pay back my share? What the hell use is a lousy stinkin' tax cut to me when the state then filters down more fees because they don't have any money?
Health insurance. While the cutesie, over-the-hill Katie Couric's of the media tantalize paranoia among the voters about trial lawyers, why doesn't the Kerry campaign cite the gluttonous salaries of the CEO's of healthcare? Seen any news reports of any of them taking a pay cut lately?
How about revealing the Bush admin.'s plan for states to impose tolls on the nations highways to pay for roadwork? Who can afford that in Michigan?
Halliburton? Give me a break, that is as dirty as it comes.
Speaking of Halliburton. How about the likely fact that if Cheney continues in the election and GWB is re-elected, Cheney will retire following the election so Bush can appoint whomever they want.
Gay marriage is a distraction that the Rep's are using to focus off Iraq. Who gives a shit who gets married to whom. We don't have time for this stuff now.
Where oh where is the backbone of the Democratic party?

Kerry/Edwards: Successful, responsible, dedicated.
Bush/Cheney: DUIs, coke abuse, traded on government connections.

The neocon influence has caused so much damage to the reputation and honor of our country. The world now questions our government, if we don't vote Bush and his gang of thieves out of office the world will question us.

Divide the cons from the neocons. Give the paleocons the chance to clean the country-dividing, war-adventuring, intelligence-bungling neocons out of their system once and for all.
Nice one!

and so is the Christian Right's power over Bush. Most Americans dislike the Christian Right, and many "sinful" Republicans (Giuliani, etc.) have nothing or little to do with fundamentalists either, at least not in public.

Kerry's campaign had the two best lines I heard in the primary season, although I gotta admit Gephardt surprised me a couple of times with some wicked zingers. The Kerry lines were "you can't be president making a half-dozen gaffes a week" (about Dean) and that the current Republicans believed in "the Creed of Greed".
The greed issue is a hot one. If anyone shrieks that they're fighting class warfare, they can fire right back "no, you're fighting it; we're fighting against it." The late, grating Lee Atwater said: "The best way for the Democrats to win a presidential election is to fight class warfare."
Junior has personally saved well over a half-million dollars by the tax cuts he put in place for himself. There's no telling how much he'd get with repeal of the so-called "death tax", due to Poppy's heaps of cash.
They held up creation of the Department of Homeland Security unless they could dissolve all union protections, collective bargaining and get the right to hire, fire and transfer at will and with no explanation. They have fought endlessly to eliminate overtime for people who make over $22.5K a year. They want tort reform that will make it impossible to sue an employer. Cheney included a note with Halliburton paychecks one Christmas informing everyone that their showing up for work the next year was tacit agreement to waive their rights to sue the corporation. Upon being sworn in, one of the very first things Bush did was rescind an Executive Order pertaining to repetitive stress syndrome. The Texas Republican Party has, as planks in its platform, the pledge to eliminate the minimum wage, Social Security, Medicare, Corporate Taxation and a host of other impediments to the rich.
Greed. It's anti-democratic, no matter how "American" it may be.

David Brock's book is excellent on this subject. Too often the ditto pig media defines our candidates, and we need to define them for what they are. Contrast moveon.org which is grassroots funded with the corporate subsidized stuff they have. Too many of those RW assholes don't get exposed for what they are, and we need to hit them harder. Franken's book was a start, but we need more, especially on the smear jobs that they have in print, Buzz Aldredge and the like. Other thing we need to hit them on is how they screw the working class while duping them with Jeezus and Mullethead family values. Show what bills these Gopigs push through and how they affect us especially in the area of deregulation. Pat "the snake" Robertson's financial ties to Charles Taylor ,who was tied to Al Quaida money laundering is another issue unheard of. I would certainly dig there to get an insight into how "god's protection was withdrew".
