RE: Obama's excuse that he "wasn't in church" during Wright's sermons
Anyone want to explain why a man who claims to have such strong faith apparently skips church every week?

Is it not conceivable that he might not have been present when these particular 5 sermons out of hundreds were preached? Didn't one of the networks have someone who attended the church for years say that he was surprised when these sermons first showcased, because they were not all that typical?

32. I think that Hillary should make scary black people a central theme of her campaign.
She should hammer, hammer, HAMMER it home until every non-elite, "working class" person in Pennsylvania is in a proper lather.

Isnt there some way we can tie Obama to Willie Horton? Rodney King? I'll bet we can.

Once this is accomplished- an army of noble, salt-of-the-earth, Christ-like "working class" folks will rise up and do tireless campaigning for Democrats. Err- unless they believe Mccain's talking points once he uses similar guilt by association tactics on Hillary- but let's cross that bridge when we get to it.

It's all a major win-win for someone I'm sure.

43. Obama must not have read the "Pastor's Page" much
JERUSALEM – Sen. Barack Obama's Chicago church published an open letter from a Palestinian activist that labels Israel an "apartheid" regime and claims the Jewish state worked on an "ethnic bomb" that kills "blacks and Arabs."

The letter, discovered by the blog Sweetness & Light, was published on the "Pastor's Page" of the Trinity United Church of Christ newsletter reserved for Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., whose anti-American, anti-Israel remarks prompted the presidential candidate to deliver a major race speech last week.

"I must tell you that Israel was the closest ally to the white supremacists of South Africa," wrote the letter's author, Ali Baghdadi. "In fact, South Africa allowed Israel to test its nuclear weapons in the ocean off South Africa. The Israelis were given a blank check: they could test whenever they desired and did not even have to ask permission. Both worked on an ethnic bomb that kills Blacks and Arabs."

The June 10, 2007, newsletter, which is still available at Obama's church's website, identifies Baghdadi as an Arab-American activist, writer and columnist who "acted as a Middle East advisor to the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, the founder of the Nation of Islam, as well as Minister Louis Farrakhan."

53. Lots of folks at my church don't attend every week, or every month
yet I don't question their faith, or their spirituality....

Nor do I test them as to what part of my sermons they absorbed,

Nor do I expect them to pass a litmus test so that I control every

minute of their lives, and they parrot every damn thing I say.

Most of the time, they go about their business... of real life.

Statements like yours simply mimic the talking points of the right wing

And have absolutely nothing to do with people who belong to a church.

Real people of faith, really committed church members know that faith

means more than swallowing every word a preacher says...

YOu gotta get out more... go to church, listen to a preacher,

and see how much you 'absorb.'

60. Weird, I saw one or two snippets of one or two singular sermons
Edited on Wed Apr-30-08 05:04 PM by AchtungToddler
played hundreds of times on cable news. Not the same words said over and over at different times.

And in context, had I been listening to the "God damned America" sermon, six weeks later I would not have been able to remember that Wright said "god damned America!".

You know why?

Because he didn't really say that. He said "blah blah blah....prophecy, Isreal, Greece, Rome, prophecy, God told Isreal... blah blah blah... American government lies, do not put your trust in government, god prophesied AGAINST his people... blah blah blah, we cannot as a country do this, that, the other thing and expect god's favor, Israel, blah blah blah, the saying goes god bless america? No, I say god damn america".

Or substance thereof.

So yeah, I'd forget it. But that doesn't matter, cuz nobody claims Obama was there. And nobody (except hillary and mccain supporters) is claiming that Wright went around repeating his most controversial words over and over. So it's not hard to believe that a church member could miss them.

Bush may be dragging U.S. into war with Iran - oh and who voted for that as well?

Billions of dollars of taxpayer's money still being poured in to the black hole of Iraq and defense contractors.

Homes being foreclosed at a rate unseen in decades.

Credit card debt at high levels.

No universal health care.

My 401k tanking.

Gas and food prices going up, up, up.

And I'm supposed to give a rat's ass about what Obama heard in church or if he went to church.

Hell if he was in church I hope he took note on some of the true things Wright said.

And then to extend it to he skips church and therefore...well I'm not even sure what the therefore is, but that just underscores how pathetic it is.
