Another call for unity.
I understand that there has been a lot of frustration and disillusionment in the recent past. I can live with it, and I am hoping that others can live with it as well.

Kerry has made his choice, and in the long run, that is all that matters. Many of us are happy, and a few chagrined, that is the way it goes. Edwards was not my first choice, but what I think in this situation, really means little.

Now is the time for all of us to gather our energies and move forward. For those of you who would not vote for Kerry, with or without Edwards, please, the rest of us understand, but it gets a little old to bash Kerry at every turn. Are we going to become like the R's and eat our own?

I learned a long time ago that in politics, as in other aspects of life, not everyone can be pleased. I certainly know my share of being felt let down.

The 2004 election is a watershed event. Every vote counts, and personally, I'm casting mine with Kerry/Edwards. bush is my enemy, not those that seek to dismantle what he and his gaggle of goons have done to our country. I see Kerry as the only viable alternative to bush. For all of the discussions about Kerry being "bush-lite" or some other notion, I know that bush is a destructive force, and cannot be allowed to continue in the capacity he is in now. Just think of what 4 years of a lame duck presidency in the bush mold can do to the country. If you think the previous 3 1/2 years were bad, you have no concept of how really terrible it can get.

We also have a chance to change the face of Congress. Please, do not stay home on election day. Get all you know to vote, even if they can't vote for Kerry, the can still change Congress, (not to mention state and local issues).

This election will set the course this nation will take. It is the responsibility of all of us to ensure that this nation will survive as a democratic republic. Please don't take this lightly. The future of our children is at stake, the future of all we aspire to is at stake...and we, the people, are the ones that can make things happen.

I encourage you to use your energies in a positive way. No man or woman is perfect, we all have faults. It is always easier to find fault, than to highlight the good. I believe that the people here at DU are good, and all of the negativity can be turned around and become a rising, unstoppable force, that will crush the current administration.

We can do it, but we must be united in our effort.

Thanks for being a part of this effort.

2. Thanks for a well thought out post
Personally, I'd rather have had another candidate at the top of the ticket. But Kerry is far far better than Bush, and Edwards only adds to the ticket, imho. For those who have a problem with this team, work your tails off for Dems running for Congress and Senate and for state and local offices. Let's face it, the coming Democratic Administration cannot undo the damage done by Chimp and Company without help from a Congress that is majority Democratic. So put your energies to good use-let's bring sanity back to this country!

4. It's not DU Kerry has to worry about, it's the 6% to 10% of Swing Voters..
Kerry's recent slight slip in the polls suggests that he must mend fences not only within the party but he must give swing voters something to choose from other than the Bush/Cheney Administration. Kerry should announce and introduce key members of his prospective cabinet at the convention from previous vetted V.P. candidates. I know its unconventional but with the electorate so polarized he has to show-off the product that swing voters may want to consider choosing.

History tells us that New England Liberals teamed up with VP candidates with no Foreign Policy or National Defense experience have not faired well in the past during general elections.

The Party as well as the Swing Voter Electorate needs to see the complete package, or we risk living through four more years of a Bush Administration followed by his brother Jeb.

5. Kerry did NOT slip in the polls
kerry was already doing well with the democratic party. he had the base and he had a lead among swing voters. this is why there wasn't a HUGE bounce in terms of just numbers. but there was a bounce which came from places that were mostly republican. kerry already had the party united behind him and had a lead among swing voters. but with edwards pick he is making some gains into republican areas.

7. Kerry/Edwards numbers are SURGING - especially given the
tightly polarized electorate. This ticket is winning over swing voters, and some Republicans. Now if we can just win over some DU'ers...

9. 8 point bounce in all polls but AP. . . .
maybe AP is an aberration.

At any rate, John and John will go up in the polls, go down in the polls, go up again and go down again. But they will go in for the kill in October.

All that matters is that we get out and vote for them on Nov 2. No Matter What.

11. Winning is the THING now.
On Nov.3,irregardless of the out come, we must begin the reform of our Party. To return the country to the people we must begin by returning our party to the people. Right now it seems we are at least headed in the right direction.
