CBS/NYT poll: Obama's lead against McCain disappears. Clinton leads McCain by 5%
After leading McCain by 5% in the next most recent poll, today's CBS/NYT poll now finds them tied.
Obama also trails McCain in RAsmussen (1%), Gallup (2%) and Fox (3%) and leads McCain by 3% in NBC.

The good news is that Obama's lead against Clinton has increased in the same poll.

Still, this is not good for Obama's electability pitch.

4. very misleading headline
here's the hard numbers:

3/28 - 4/02 Obama 46 Clinton 43
4/25 - 4/29 Obama 46 Clinton 38

That's a +5 gain in the midst of Wright, Bittergate, and a PA loss.

It doesn't matter how well Hillary polls against McCain. She will not be the Nominee.

7. Nothing about the headline was misleading
I was focusing on the general election. If Clinton won't be the nominee, and I agree, then it's less important to cite the Democratic race numbers, since we know who will win anyway.

Why don't you want to talk about GE electability?

12. Hillary will not be the Nominee so her GE numbers are irrelevant
Once she is kicked to the curb, watch as Obama's numbers vs McCain move back to what they were before her Majesty started throwing shit everywhere.

28. Then why did CBS/NYT decide it was relevant to tell us how Clinton fares vs. McCain?
By your logic, the poll itself is misleading.

At least you admit that Obama crumbling against McCain is newsworthy.

5. Considering it was taken between April 25 - 29...
...it's not as damaging as I thought it might be. There's virtually no polling taken from after Obama's press conference.

9. You are assuming Obama's press conference will help him
I beg to differ. Concensus is that Obama's decision to throw Wright under the bus came too late.

6. That's a nonsensical conclusion.
If Obama beats Clinton, then in all likelihood he will poll much better against McCain once Hillary is removed from the equation. You can't draw a significant conclusion about a hypothetical Clinton/McCain matchup OR a hypothetical Obama/McCain matchup now, and it's foolish to even try; the number of people who currently support either Democrat A or Democrat B is likely to contain a significant percentage on both sides who won't support Republican X once the Democratic primaries are over. The current variables skew the results, and it's outright intellectual dishonesty to suggest that such polls, six months away from the election, have any significance at all.

21. Despite Wright Obama lead in CBS Poll grows from 3 to 8-points.
Mr. Obama still holds an edge over Mrs. Clinton on several key measures; for example, 46 percent of the Democratic primary voters say he remains their choice for the nomination, while 38 percent preferred Mrs. Clinton, who has lost support among men in recent weeks. On that question, his margin actually grew, to eight from three points, over the past month.

Mr. Obama also has an advantage over Mrs. Clinton in ratings on honesty and integrity, in sharing the values of most Americans and in being less beholden to special interest groups.

Election 08 is there for the taking,..........if the nominee is Clinton. I don't want to hear a bunch of screaming and crying in November if OLoser is the choice.

its a tough choice. I tend to accept the Clinton argument that hers have been all in for some time and can be better countered.
