Obama Campaign Registers 30,000 Oregonians
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 30, 2008

Oregon for Obama Campaign Registers More Than 30,000 Voters in 30 Days

PORTLAND - Today the Oregon for Obama campaign announced that it had registered 31,770 Oregonians to vote in the 30 days leading up to yesterday's voter registration deadline.

Oregonians are ready to turn the page on the failed politics of Washington D.C. and the thousands of volunteers and new voters involved in this historic voter registration effort are a testament to Senator Obama's unique ability to inspire Americans to participate in the political process.

In Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas Counties, the Oregon for Obama campaign registered 14,500 new Democratic voters and party-switchers
In Lane and Benton Counties, the campaign registered 7,000 new Democratic voters and party-switchers
In Jackson County, the campaign registered 1,500 new Democratic voters and party-switchers
In Marion County, the campaign registered 1,000 new Democratic voters and party-switchers
In Deschutes County, the campaign registered 1,000 new Democratic voters and party-switchers
The remaining 6,770 new Democratic voters and party-switchers are from 22 additional counties throughout Oregon

"Obama's grassroots movement in Oregon has been successful because Oregonians are looking for a candidate who will end the war in Iraq, create a sustainable environment and stand up to the special interests in Washington, D.C., Barack Obama is that candidate," said Rob Hill, Oregon for Obama State Director. "These 30,000 new Democrats show that the Obama Campaign is laying the groundwork for the strongest possible effort in November for Democrats to get elected up and down the ballot."

Last Friday, the national Obama for America campaign announced the kickoff of Vote for Change, an unprecedented 50-state voter registration and mobilization drive to register new voters and boost engagement in our Democratic process.

"If we're going to push back on the special interests and finally solve the challenges we face, we're going to need everyone to get involved,"said Senator Obama. "Over the next six months, Vote for Change is going to bring new participants into the process, adding scores of new voices to this critical dialogue about our future. I started my career as a community organizer, and I worked to register voters in communities where hope was all but lost. I've seen what can happen when Americans re-engage and take ownership in the process."

1. One Candidate is trying to increase voter turnout. The other one is trying to suppress it.
Which one is acting according to Democratic Party ideals?

28. One candidate takes her knowledge, ideas and experience to the electorate to convice them...
that she is the best choice to be President. The other one has to rely on roping up newbie kids, clueless apoliticals and other hype-prone denizens of of "American Idol" America.

29. Yeah. Those people shouldn't be voting. Just the older white women folk
and the beer, bowling and bingo crowds can know what's best for everyone.

41. Your elitism is showing. Oh and by the way, Latte Liberals have a very high registration rate too!
It's not like it was only us poor unhip schlubs who were voting in the B.O. Era(Before Obama.)

45. My sarcasm and irritation are showing.
the elitist, dismissive labels like "newbie kids, clueless apoliticals and other hype-prone denizens " tend to do it for me.
Pesky and incovenient, I know, that she hasn't closed the deal already with all the "quality" voters.

44. That's your rebuttal? You're advocating voter suppression.
And I see, you just like Hillary Clinton, choose to mock voters who don't follow her. Pathetic.

4. Now, if the Portland HDQ
would get a fresh supply of lawn signs and bumper stickers, I'd be even happier.

Two of my "Independent" friends, who voted twice for Bush, registered as Dems so that they could vote for Obama in our upcoming primary, and then in the GE.

GOBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9. This is big
Oregon voters don't do this stuff normally. There's a real independent streak here.

Our primary is May 20. It hasn't mattered since 1968.

We're gonna have some fun here in Oregon.

Not just me, but there are a lot of Oregon DUers.

We even drink together from time to time.

The Senate Dem primary here decides who is gonna kick Gordon Smith out.

The mood here is VERY positive.

It will be difficult to get rid of him. We'll need some coat tails to get it done.

We'll definitely have to be pro-active, but I don't think he'll be all that hard to beat. And I just decided on Merkley. He's got the best chance and that's just all there is to it. I'll get signs and such tomorrow.

47. She doesn't need "foot soldiers." Voter registration is activism,
--and "activists" are all elitist. It's elitist to want to have more people participate in politics. The real genuine proles need Monsanto to tell them how necessary gene-modified crops are.

40. well good..but may I ask a question? If our choices are doing the
right thing and losing with Obama because fair is fair OR doing the wrong thing and winning with Hillary, what should super-delegates do? I say place HRC on the ballot because obama is now a major flawed candidate.

Now do you see why HRC stayed in this race? What if HRC had dropped out and all the dems were left with is obama and his flawed self and pastor wright. We would surely lose in november to a man we should have beat....

Hell, we had this election won until obama decided he had to "unite us".....damn good job your doing obama
