Apparently, they have quite a fascist "bent."

AOL bans independent news source

About 500 subscribers to US-based human rights watch Web site ZNet have had their paid subscription unceremoniously cancelled, after AOL placed a ban on all emails originating from the independent media source.

On Sunday July 25, America Online (AOL) kicked a man out of a gay-oriented chat room for asking a question about safe sex, according to three witnesses present at the time. When asked how AOL could make amends for its actions this past week, John in St. Louis said: "I fully expect an apology to the members involved and a commitment from AOL to increase training in sensitivity to its guides.

it's almost impossible to find brain room, let alone disk space, for the entire debate about Net censorship. The court decision regarding the constitutionality of the Communications Decency Act (CDA) dominates one controversy; AOL's iron-fisted antics are the subject of another. Taken together, the two issues do more than generate a lot of e-mail: they reveal a strange paradox in the terms of debate over free speech.

America Online, the largest commercial forum in cyberspace, has forbidden people who use its sports discussion groups to post their messages in any language other than English.

17. They probably are. I only tried it for a few Clark sites.
Only if you sending an e-mail to an aol user... (which is about 70% of the users - last time I checked).

6. Do you have information about their banning Clark sites?
Also, what has AOL done since their censoring of ZNet servers? Have they uncensored them, yet?

For the English-only messageboards, I need to research that one before commenting.

8. May not be a joke. AOL is notorious.
The proof wasn't included in the post, though.

11. Found a reference to the article that was originally on CNET
AOL's "youth filters" protect kids from Democrats
>
>America Online provides "youth filters" that are supposed to keep kids out
>of dangerous Web sites--but they seem designed to eliminate creeping
>liberalism.
>
>For example, if you've set up AOL to restrict your children to "Kids
>Only" Web sites:
>
>- Your children can easily view the site of the Republican National
>Committee, but the Democratic National Committee is blocked.
>
>- Children can call up the conservative Constitution Party and
>Libertarian Party, both of which are promoting their own U.S. presidential
>candidates. But if they attempt to view Ralph Nader's Green Party or Ross
>Perot's Reform Party, they see only a "not appropriate for children"
>error.

These don't appear to have any connection to Clark at all.

I'm locking this.
