Walter F. Mondale selected the first woman to be on a national political ticket--Geraldine Ferarro. Say what you will about the electoral success of the Mondale/Ferarro ticket it was a bold and much overdue move and has not been duplicated by either party in the five election cycles since (unless Bush dumps Cheney and puts a woman on his ticket). While I'm happy with John Edwards as Kerry's VP, I do hope for a day in the near future when women and people of color will be on the short list for Vice president and taken seriously if they run for president.
