THREE Black Senate Candidates
This is thrilling me to no end, so I thought I'd mention this for anyone else who thinks the Senate should be more diverse.

Obama Barack from Illinois.
http://www.obamaforillinois.com/

Mike Miles from Colorado.
http://www.mikemiles4senate.com/

Arthur Morrell from Louisiana.

19. He is running against a Hispanic....
...and Hispanics are rare in the U.S. Congress.

Of course I am bias. I'm hoping to live to see a Hispanic, liberal woman be president of the U.S. I am 51 now, and I expect I'll have to live to be 20,000, and still not see it. I have placed the idea in the heads of a lot brilliant young Hispanic women already, so who knows!

6. Yes they are both great.
Miles will have to upset Salazar on August 10 primary.
It may seem a longshot but it is possible.

4. It's Barack Obama.
Actually. He is very likely the next senator from Illinois.

5. Yes, it's great, but....
Obama is the only one already in the general election.

Does anyone have polls on the Miles/Salazar race, or the Louisiana open primary?

7. I don't have polls, but Miles got more votes than Salazar
did at the Colorado convention.

It would be wonderful if Salazar were our next governor.

14. Poll reflects a name recognition issue for Miles.
http://63.147.65.175/poll-sen062804.pdf

Of the 800 queried, 49% did not recognize Miles' name.
Of the likely democratic voters, 32% did not recognize Miles' name.
The turnout August 10 will be low and folks who do not know the candidates will turnout is smaller proportions than those who do.

Certainly Salazar is leading but overconfidence would be imprudent.

Interestingly, Salazar is delegate to national convention, Miles is not. Can Salazar afford to spend a week in Boston? I suppose he will raise even more money out east for his campaign, but Miles will be meeting more potential voters back home.

16. Morrell doesn't have a chance
These polls show that he will likely just get single digits. He will get some of the black vote in Louisiana but there isn't any evidence that he will appeal to any large number of whites and he won't get enough to reach the runoff.

9. Also Denise Majette in Georgia
She's not very popular on DU or among the left b/c she deposed McKinney. While I liked many of McKinney's positions on the issues, we shouldn't be overly mean to Majette. She has one of the most liberal records in the House for a Southern Democrat and she's quite locally popular.

She's also running for turncoat Zell's seat. Unfortunately, she's not at all likely to win. But unlike Mike Miles and Arthur Morrell, she's the likely nominee.

10. you forgot one
Wayne Sowell from Alabama. Of course, he's running against Richard Shelby, one of the most well-financed incumbents in the Senate.

18. Waiting for Oprah ...

She'd be an amazing candidate in either Illinois (where she tapes her show) or her residential Indiana.
