Looking to volunteer - help?
Yeah, so I'm pretty new here, but I figured you might be the best people to ask. I've gathered a group of about 6-10 people and we're looking to travel to swing states from August-October to register liberal voters and do whatever else we can to help beat the Republicans on November 2. I know there are a lot of volunteer organizations out there to hook up with - I've heard of driving votes, and of course Move On - but I thought you folks might be able recommend one. I'm really just looking for a place to start.

We're just a bunch of twenty-something students in the San Francisco Bay area who're willing to take time off work & school, spend our meager personal funds on gas and even plane tickets if necessary, and generally do whatever it takes to help take back our country this fall.

Thanks in advance.

1. Contact the Kerry for President HQ in the places you intend to travel...
...and let them know you're planning to travel there and offer your assistance.

I'm sure they will put you to work!

The fact of the matter is we don't have plans to go to any particular place yet. I'm really willing to go where I'm needed most. I guess Oregon would be the closest swing state, but I'll even go to Florida if that's what it comes to.

I was just wondering if anyone was organizing volunteers on a national level like this. Basically, it's a "have enthusiasm, will travel" situation for us.

4. I think Arizona and Nevada might need your help more than Oregon...
...if you're not looking to travel too far from SF.

Of course, you should go wherever you want to be spending your time. Your contributions are needed and would be appreciated EVERYWHERE.

Personally, I think Ohio is the ball game.

5. SF Bay Area has a fairly coordinated effort on this
I'm going to a meeting on Wednesday where I'll get all the contacts. I'm going to get home late and then leave the next day so if you send me a PM or an email that would help me make sure I give you the info before I leave. We're organizing buses, we have contacts, we have groups who are going, we are actually organized. It would also help if you give me a better idea where in the Bay
Area you are. Most of us working on this, and there are many, want to coordianate the volunteers so please help me with sending you the information.

6. Have you looked at ACT?
http://actforvictory.org/

They're doing a lot to register voters, mobilize voters, and defeat Bush. I'd suggest you give them a look.

Welcome to DU and thank you for your desire to help.

7. I volunteer/manage dem HQ's in Sarasota
We're smack in the middle of Katherine country. We're also setting up plans to register people throughout Sarasota county. We have a strong veterans group who are recruiting more and more vets take action either registering people or getting a Kerry staff person to come into the area.

Type in your zip code and they give you a bunch of options.

I typed in yours and I see that they're organizing canvassing for Reno in a couple days.
