Kerry taking federal election funds sounds like a stupid idea.
NOTE: You probably know by know that I am very very very very anti-Nader, pro-Kerry, anti-splintering and anti-Kerry-bashing.

It is for the very reason that I'd like to see Kerry elected that I bring this up.

- Sure it's throwing away 75 million free dollars, but I'm thinking we could raise more than that - or even have a significant chunk of it already raised and left over from before the official nomination!

- We have over a month between our convention and theirs, so even if they take the $75 million, we have to spread it over this extra month as well. Not that their ads have been effective, but still.

- We would be limited to spending only $75 million dollars, get through a third or more of it, and then maybe find out over a month later that Bush* is going to waive his and be able to raise more! We're making this decision without knowing what our opponent will do!

So no, this isn't a Kerry-bashing thread in the traditional sense - it should not take away any votes from Kerry. Please, man, I want you in the White House; make sure you do the right thing!

1. But the DNC can help
It's true that Kerry would have to make his money last longer, but isn't the campaign planning to pretty much drop off the airwaves in August and let convention coverage and DNC ads?

Google News search gave me this article: "Kerry will pull his T-V commercials in August -- saving (m) millions in a tight general election budget. However, August is when the Democratic National Committee -- which has 63 (m) million dollars in the bank -- plans to launch its ad blitz.

The chairman of the D-N-C has promised the Kerry campaign he'll raise 100 (m) million dollars more."

3 mohts
75 million
DNC will pour money as well
527 groups will pour money as well

My guess is total over 120 million for 3 months of campaign... not stupid for me :)

3. Not only that...
But it positions JK to be able to support (in deed, was well as in word) campaign finance reform.
