Kerry Shatters Quarterly Presidential Fundraising Record with $99.2 million
Tops Bush in Fundraising for Fourth Straight Month
$36.5 Nearly Triples Bush’s June Total, Reports $36 million on Hand at End of June
Washington, DC - The Kerry Edwards campaign announced today that it has raised $36.5 million in the month of June, $99.2 in the second quarter, over $160 million in 2004 and $185 million for the entire primary campaign. It is the fourth consecutive month that Kerry dramatically outraised Bush and the fourth month that it has topped $30 million.
The Kerry campaign raised $99.2 million for the second quarter of 2004, setting a record for any presidential campaign ever.
“With an average grassroots donation under $100 in June, our campaign continues to build great energy from average Americans,” said Mary Beth Cahill, Kerry-Edwards campaign manager. “Two-thirds of all the money raised by John Kerry has come from 750,000 contributors.”
“The Kerry campaign collected over 325,000 contributions in June as the grassroots fundraising keeps on a record breaking pace,” said Louis B. Susman, Kerry-Edwards national finance director. “Our well balanced fundraising of traditional and grassroots, online and direct mail, has allowed us nearly to catch a sitting president’s record fundraising.”
June’s $36.5 Million Highlights:
- Direct mail and phones lead the way this month for the Kerry campaign with $13.8 million raised from 195,000 contributions, average contribution - $71.
- JohnKerry.com raised $12.1 million online, with an average contribution of $99.
- Traditional fundraising rounded out the month with over $9.6 million raised.
- June 30, 2004 set a Kerry online fundraising record with $3 million in one day.
- June 29, 2004 was nearly as successful with $2 million for a $5 million two-day total. The Kerry Edwards campaign broke all presidential campaign challenger records during the 2004 primary.
JohnKerry.com remains the campaigns top fundraiser with over $57 million in 2004 through June 30th and $65 million raised through July 19, 2004.
The Kerry-Edwards campaign raised $3.3 million online in the first three days following Sen. Kerry’s selection of Sen. Edwards as his running mate.
The Kerry-Edwards campaign will report $36 million cash on hand as of June 30, 2004, with about $28 million in expenditures in June.
During the primary season, the campaign has over $185 million in receipts.
