Repost from my own blog:Struck by the confrontational title of this message? You bet I'm angry! The Spanish language ads of the Bush-Cheney campaign are now stating flatly that John Kerry "has no word"
("no tiene palabra") and that message is apparently approved by George W Bush:
"Soy George W Bush y aprobé este mensaje."It's bad enough that George W Bush isn't representing the interests of the Latino / Hispanic community. It's worse that he's actually
hurting us, in breach of solemn promises he made to us while groveling for our votes. But it's outright unacceptable that he attempts to lie in our faces - again. Not this time, amigo!
So that's what this message is based on: two Spanish-language ads that also run here, in NV.
Check out this Spanish language ad, titled
"Aceptar reponsabilidad:"http://www.georgewbush.com/News/MultiMedia/VideoPlayer.aspx?ID=825Yet here are the facts, in pristine English that Bush should understand:
http://blog.johnkerry.com/dbunker/archives/001704.htmlHere's a top-three selection - among many other supported facts that contradict the insidiously deliberate misrepresentations in that ad:
- Half of All Hispanics Drop Out by High School. According to a study released in February 2004 by The Urban Institute, only 53 percent of all Hispanic students got a high school diploma in 2001. http://www.urban.org/ - 2/25/04>
- Bush Terminated Dropout Prevention Programs. Bush cut dropout prevention programs entirely out of his 2005 budget. In explanation of the cut, OMB called the programs “unnecessary,” saying that other funding was available for this purpose. http://www.omb.gov/ - Major Reductions and Terminations in the 2005 Budget, OMB>
- Bush Shortchanged Own Education Law by $9.4 Billion in 2005. Bush proposed $9.4 billion less for his No Child Left Behind Act than was authorized by the act in his 2005 budget. Bush has shortchanged NCLB by a total of $33.2 billion in his last four budgets. 2001-2005, http://www.ed.gov/]
So, given the litany of George W Bush's broken promises, among many others also affecting education and our Latino / Hispanic community, that campaign ad represents the pinnacle of mendacity. It is all the more hypocritical to criticize John Kerry for alleged "waffling" when the record sets John Kerry fair and square in the corner of our community. See Senator Kerry's support for the DREAM act, as just one of many examples that are readily available on his site, such as here:
http://www.JohnKerry.com/issues/immigration/But wait -
there's more! Here's another ad from the Bush/Cheney campaign, titled
"Diferencias:"http://www.georgewbush.com/News/MultiMedia/VideoPlayer.aspx?ID=756The "rationale" for that ad is given by the Bush/Cheney team here:
http://www.georgewbush.com/kerrymediacenter/read.aspx?id=2359Yet here are the facts behind the distortions and lies:
http://blog.johnkerry.com/dbunker/archives/001352.htmlhttp://blog.johnkerry.com/dbunker/archives/001502.htmlIn fact, you can see all the whacko Bush/Cheney attacks debunked here:
http://blog.johnkerry.com/dbunker/all.htmlSee Kerry's progressive ratings record, from nation-wide advocacy groups:
http://vote-smart.org/issue_rating_category.php?can_id=S0421103Here are links to two older news articles (in English) that in May examined Bush's Spanish language campaign, which now clearly has gone into vile attack mode:
http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20040524/news_1e24salinas.htmlhttp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A22397-2004May12.htmlWhereas the Bush/Cheney campaign started out rhetorically asking whether Kerry is worth his word, now they flat-out claim that he isn't.
The gall! That's why I say:
George W Bush no tiene vergüenza - George W Bush has no shame.
Indeed: there are many differences between Kerry and Bush - none of them make George W Bush look anywhere near credible, let along deserving of our support. And speaking of accountability, to paraphrase Mahatma Gandhi when asked about his opinion of English civilization:
what a wonderful idea!
