We need help on final updates to Campaign Underground.
Once again, I apologize that I have not been focusing on this. I finally got some time to go through and figure out the status on Campaign Underground. I was pleased to learn that most of the information has been entered, and there's only a little work left to do. You have all done an amazing job on this project. Thanks so much for your help. You can check it out here:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/cu

No matter what happens, we are going to officially launch during the first week in August. There is more than enough information already in the database to make it public. And we're going to have the media blaster done by then as well.

It would be great if we could have all of the data in the database, and tie up all the loose ends, by the time we launch. If you want to help us collect any of this information, please post in this thread or send me a private message. Please make sure you tell me which state or states you want to work on. I will send you the link to the administrative page and the passwords you need.

Thanks for all your help. I think this is going to be great.

4. Started doing some research
Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 01:40 PM by RatTerrier
I started to look up some Alaska radio stations.

I'll help out on a few states if you need me to.

Mind if I start digging up some Cali media outlets to start?

BTW: This site is good for searching out radio stations:

http://www.radio-locator.com/

They do limit the number of searches, though.

Otherwise, Yahoo can yield some results.

17. Only 3 media outlets in VA (vs. 122 in OH)? There are many more
outlets in VA but I'm not sure what criteria you are using for inclusion/exclusion? In just comparing these, VA has many smaller towns comparable to those included in OH, and there are multiple media outlets in the three VA communities that you have included (comparable to the multiple media outlets shown under Cincinnati, for example). Do you want all of these, or not?

I sent 2 PMs about this over the past few months, but I know you're busy.

For Colorado - it shows 5 Democrats in the U.S. House, and 2 Republicans. It is the other way around. The breakdown by district is correct. Can you please change the number on the state homepage to 5R 2D? (I wish it were the other way around!)

Thanks,
Travis

21. South Dakota Senate Race Information
Edited on Fri Jul-23-04 07:48 PM by suegeo
Here is the missing Tom Daschle information.

Tom Daschle for Senate - State Headquarters
2701 S. Minnesota Avenue, Suite 7
Sioux Falls, SD 57105

Phone: 605-334-9895 or Toll-free at 866-213-5200
Email: SiouxFalls@tomdaschle.com

General Email: Info@tomdaschle.com

website: http://www.tomdaschle.com/

The info for challenger to Daschle is alreay input (Thune stuff)

Since I was the original editor of the South Dakota info for CU, I tried to use the login information you sent me earlier to enter this information. However, I was not successful.

I will not be able to enter this information myself later, as I will be busy for the next few days (in other words, don't send me new login stuff, if necessary, because I won't be around to input data.)

As for media outlets, I know there aren't many that I found, but South Dakota is sparsely populated, and there didn't appear to be that many to list.

Hope this helps.

Skinner,

I managed to log in and add a candidate to the District 7 house race in Missouri, but when I tried to add a web address for one of the gubernatorial candidates, I received a message that I wasn't authorized access.

Tried closing that page and opening a new window, thinking maybe it would let me just start from scratch, but no luck. The pop-up won't accept the password.

Thanks,
soup

60. Does anyone know if anyone is working on chad removal from
the remaining punch card machines in the country? I was just remembering the problem in Florida when the chad buildup was so severe due to the unemptied chad recepticles that new chad simply could not enter the box. I think most of us can remember when the random chad box was opened in the courtroom spewing chad everywhere. The failure to perform the required regular clean out had made it impossible for the punching device to punch a clean hole through the ballots. This is something that can easily be prevented in advance by insuring that punch card machines are properly cleaned before the election. There is still time. Does anyone know if anyone is coordinating such an effort? If there is no such effort underway at this time, I would like to help this Clean Elections effort. Please let me know. I will also post this in GD....Thanks

I know there aren't a tremendous amount of media outlets listed, but I was really burnt out after doing all the House and Senate Races and Media, too.

Are you from Glens Falls, btw? I spent a lovely vacation there a few years ago. :)

82. A Question about media outlets
I am working on the media outlets for Arkansas. My question is whether I should enter media outlets in other states that are accessible to Arkansans. For example, Memphis is a major media outlet that many in Arkansas watch. Even here in central Arkansas, many can get the Memphis channels. Should I add those to the Arkansas list or not? Surely they will be in the Tennessee list and the person will have listed Arkansas in the coverage area.

83. about media outlets
I believe what they are looking for are media outlets within each state proper, not overlapping outlets. If I am wrong someone can correct it. If you start listing overlapping outlets the list would never end :)

86. Skinner - QUESTION about deleting candidates
Missouri's primary was held yesterday, and I need to delete some candidates from the lists.

On the 'Category: Governor's Race Info' page, I'm given 2 options, 'delete records' and 'edit records'.

If I hit 'delete records', will it delete everything about ALL candidates, or will it give me the option of chosing which candidate's records to delete?

102. Question about your media links
RatTerrier,

Did you compile this, or is there a site where the information is laid out like that?

I'm working on finalizing several states, and the media outlets are a real pain in the neck time-drag. I'm finding it takes me a good 3 to 5 minutes to find and get each individual outlet's info added to the database. (using http://www.gebbieinc.com)

The high-tech cutesies are about to drive me bonkers. For example: 1.800.555.NEWS has to be translated to (800) 555-6397 to enter it here.

If you compiled this info yourself, you know exactly what I'm talking about - and, by the way - for which you deserve a huge "Good Job!"

soup - begging for any possible shortcuts

103. This is a great source
Edited on Sat Aug-07-04 10:18 AM by RatTerrier
http://newslink.org/

Links to radio, TV, and newspapers.

Not 100%, but it's pretty close. I click on the individual links and get the contacts from the media outlets' individual sites (look for a 'contact us' or 'about' link).

Unfortunately, you'll have to do a bit of cut-and-paste, but it's laid out better than the site you use. I just compile everything on Notepad.

For harder-to-find radio stations, you can go here:

http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/home

Just a reminder - look for small town and community stations. An FM country station in a small market might have a larger news presence than an AM talk station that plays only syndicated shows. I added a lot of college and public stations.

105. Thank you!
News Link's format looks a lot more user friendly than what I was using. Every bit of time saved and frustration avoided helps.

Dunce that I am - went to add it to my favorites, and it's already there.

Radio Locator is new to me, and looks promising.

thanks again.

106. Radio Locator will limit your searches
They try to hit you up for a subscription fee, but will let you search about ten or so station listings.

Use it as a last resort.
